I would DEFINITELY ride that bike with pink wheels. You can call me what you want. That would be supreme blingness. I can't wait for it to get up to Minnesota

Somebody tell Industry-Nine to add pink as a color.
By the way, their wheels don't go out of true, even when I knock a spoke completely loose.

I wanna see a pic of the new Dorothy headbadge. Anybody got a teaser?

Rob's fillets are some of the best I have seen. He's got skillz with the torch.

I heard he has actually been doing some riding lately too.

Good stuff.

Mr Ferris has been gracious enough to let us have our frame at his booth, Industry Nine can show their wheels at their's. The bike will be getting BLUE I 9's when it comes home, but it will be just the frame at the show.

Not yet. That's the clincher.

How about a tire clearance shot instead? Should fit 2.5's with mud clearance.

Are these going to be avaiable in various sizes as well as geared too?

I'm interested in a small one for my wife. I KNOW that she would love this bike! Pink and blue, yeah! As long as she doesn't think that it means we're having more babies!!!!

Six sizes will be available starting out with a 13" and going up to a 21" frame size. The bikes will all be geared specific for now.

The frames are geared specific, though are available with a Niner or Phil Ebb at a slight upcharge.

Frame sizes will be from 13" to 23" with an effective TT range from 21.75 for the 13" to 25.7" for the 23".

I'll have built bike photos of the prototype up later today, with full geo specs and preorder specials to follow soon.

Thanks for all of the interest and it was great to see a few of you at Interbike.

Cheers,
Ben

Ben, I went ahead and ordered up the Inbred for $350. I'm going to play around on this rig for the fall and dial in all of my other 29er parts. I'll be saving my money this last quarter of the year to snag Dorothy first thing next year. She is damn beautiful, a true work of art!

Nice bike!

Ben didn't sleep much after Interbike I see!

Very classic profile. I like it alot. I bet it rides pretty dreamy too. After the little details get worked out, it should be close to perfection!

Way to go Rob and Ben! I can't wait to see how this all plays out for you guys. I'm betting it'll be a home run.

That should be a light build too!

Have to agree, my Badger is the finest riding 29er i've been on. Heck, better than a multitude of 26" for that matter. Rob has got a lot of the geo for the 29er dialed.

Dorothy will be a sweet way to get the ride w/o the full custom cost.

Nice build!

Ben, I was wondering if you happened to run across Jason out there yesterday and if he threw a leg over Dorothy or not. It'd be interesting to hear what his take was on it.

Ted, I did see Ben. It was such a nice day and the bike looked great in the sun. He offered to let me ride it but I declined as I'm still nursing my broken arm. Maybe another time.

Bike looks great! I sort of cringed because I chose a very similar blue for my custom bike last March, and am still waiting on it. In the meantime there is dorothy and that steel fisher both in a light blue... oh well.

Will there be a 'production' rigid fork offering? steel, already painted, etc...

can you choose the color, or will they all be blue?

Forks and stems will be available in stock sizes painted to match the bike. At this time the blue is going to be the only color offered.

Some other design notes for careful observers. This bike is a protoype. The production bikes will have derailler cable routing on the underside of the top tube. This bike has breezer styled dropouts, where the stock frame will use the lighter Paragon machined dropouts. The seatpost binder will also be a typical clamp style for the use of bolt on, or quick release seat clamps. There will also be three zip tie hydro guides on the underside of the top tube instead of two.

Ok, I'm a bit slow...

....so can someone tell me how exactly is the Dorothy different from a regular Badger aside from being an 'in-stock/no waiting' frame?

There are several differences.

1. At this time, only the blue color is available. Rob's customs are just that, custom options on color choices.

2. The frames are brazed using brass filler. This is the traditional method used for brazing, though Rob's frames use silver filler for the brazing material. Silver fillets are a slightly smoother and smaller than brass. The price does reflect this however.

3. As in a frame from a larger company, tubing sets are the same for each bike in each size. Rob's custom bikes are changed by using different tubes to specifically tune the ride to each individual rider. Dorothy's are tuned to an average rider in each size frame. The butting and placement of butts, (either fore of back of the tube,) are optimised for each frame size.

In short, these are almost the same quality frames, while being available faster and at a lower cost. For those looking for an exact bike, color, or for those who physically need something a little different, Rob's customs would be the way to go.

We are accepting preorders now, at a discount of 15% off of frames. Total price for frame and fork before the discount will be $1475. Frames after the discount will be $1062.50. Forks will be $225, and stem pricing is coming. Preordered bikes should be delivered the second or third week in December, with earlier orders being delivered first.

New question here. Custom Frame and Fork

Custom filet brazed frame from Badger is $1400.00 and fork is $200.00.
Badger Dorothy $1475.00
It is an OK deal if you pre-order but if you don't pre-order then for the additional $125.00 why not get him to custom build you a frame and fork?
Am I missing something?

The frame and fork, (1250 frame + 225 fork), is $1475 together.

So, basically you get frame and fork at normal price for a little less than a custom frame. With the discount, it comes to about $1287.50 for the frame and the fork. Significantly less than a custom frame alone.

This price also includes a Jen Greene headbadge. One of this complexity would cost around $130 direct from Jen.

There is also the wait time. After the preorder, these will be normal production frames, making the wait time considerably less than a full custom.

I should have mentioned the paint as well. Dorothy's are powdercoated, then painted, then clear coated. This would be a charge above Rob's normal custom charge. It should be noted that the $1400 price is a baseline, options would increase the frame price.

So if a person does place a preorder, you're right, it's a very good deal. If a person chooses to wait, they have another option in a stock bike to pick from.

My appologies for any confusion.

Ben

I thought I'd address this one as you have been bangin' on my photo's in another forum and making similar complaints.

First off, the bike I'm riding due to the extreme generosity and kindness of benwitt is a working prototype, not a show model. Several details of the frame are changed from the bike I'm riding and it might be misleading and confusing to show detailed photographs of this bike. I think it definitely wouldn't be my place to post up such shots and cause benwitt to post more explanations than he already has.

So, to that end I have been posting shots of the Dorothy in it's natural environs, showing all that this is indeed being ridden and tested to find any potential bugs in the soup that Rob Pennell is serving up.

I'm sure that when there is a final production version available to photograph that your desires will be fulfilled. Patience good man, patience!

Dorothy - You have a Beautiful Frame. I am also attracted to your measurements. However, there are two measurements that I did not see....Bottom Bracket Height and Stand Over preferably on the 17" model.

Bottom bracket heights for all sizes is 12.5". I'll get a standover height for you tommorow, (I can measure mine and give you real world specs.)

Cheers,
Ben

Stems and forks are coming. They will not be painted before the Dec 1st deadline unfortunately. They will be powder coated Dorothy Blue, then clear coated like the frame as well.

Standover height on the 17" frame will be approximently 30.2"s at the middle of the tube. Final geometry drawings will be up on the website shorlty.

The final drawings also list the maximum size shoe a rider can wear without toe overlap.

Delivery is still on track for the last week in December/first week in January. This is for all stems, frames, and forks. All headbadges arrived from Jen Greene last week. I'll post a pic of them tommorow.

Cheers,
Ben

Please hurry Dorothy. I'm without a bike to ride and I'm desperately awaiting your arrival. Don't make me ride my road bike, she's not as pretty as you and she bores me to tears.
