Jamis 29er revealed!!
Jamis Bicycles will be unviling the entire 2007 product line on August 7th. Rumor has it there will be 29er/s introduced as well as new carbon fiber bikes.

It appears that you could go gearie on the SS
Looks like cable stops and derailluer hangar are there, along with the track ends. Must be a slotted caliper mount like a Karate Monkey?

For all of you that have had doubts about whether or not the NJ could ever, ever be cool, the fact that both major bike manufactures in NJ (Jamis & Van Dessel) both make a variety of 29er models should change some opinions. We might be a geologically and topigraphically challenged people as mountain biking goes, but at least we're on the forefront of the 29er movement.

I think what Jamis did was great by building a mid level geared bike. Hopefully it will appeal to more riders on a budget that do not want to build their own bikes. I am curious on how they will market it. |

Interesting. I had some early teaser info from my rep that the steel would be 953 for both, as in Stainless, mmmmmm=  This may have changed, and it looks like the geary is alloy, so, any info on material? Nice looking bikes, looking forward to moving a few!!

Oh, how I loved my old Dakota. Please tell me they are not going to spec it with a POS Tora.

I just busted my tora......... Its at Sram now getting fixed.. I wouldn't buy another one. I didnt even have it that long. Hopefully it will get fixed fast I mis my bike.

That's exactly what it is. The TORA is a REBA with steel upper tubes. Same internals, lowers, etc.
It's 1/2 lb heavier, but with stiffer, smoother feeling travel. Everyone I've known riding them, loves them.
Jeez...One thread we have people begging for cheaper stuff, another thread we have people calling good stuff crap just because it's cheaper.  |

Just received word from a buddy who works at a shop that sells Jamis. The Steel bike is the 2007 Exile and it will be able to be run as a SS or geared - for those wondering. I guess it is a pretty cool dropout system to allow the conversion from one to the other too.

Agreed. If they had a "Dragon" model with a Reba Race, maybe, but you can get the Fisher with better parts for the same or less.

I've wondered myself what the difference is. I thought the only difference was the Tora has steel stantion and steerer tubes, while the Reba has aluminum, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know for sure what the differences are?

and have started to get parts to make it lighter, a LOT lighter
I've started with AC classic 29 disc wheels at 1600g and a AM headset at 69g.
will be ordering a syntace force 99 stem and flat bar with 9' sweep at 119g.
light post and saddle are next, then crank and BB.
wonder what the bike will go down to on a diet?

That pricing seems very un-Jamis.
There are more differences than just the steel stanchions inregards to the Tora versus Reba. The Tora is solo air, the Reba is dual air with separate inflation valves for tuning. The Tora does not have adjustable Floodgate, it's factory preset, where as the Reba is adjustable (controls how locked the lockout feels).

I have a Tora Solo air SL and it has an Alum. Steerer with Cromo stanchions. No ext. flood gate control...just internal. |

The Tora is not a terrible fork.
Motion Control rocks.
True it's not as adjustable as the Reba, but it has everything a rider needs for daily fun. A racer it is not, but a good fork it is.

I agree. For the price, it can't be beat. Granted it's not my Vanilla, but what fork in that range is, and who really expects it to be anyway?
Good entry level fork. I say entry level because I don't even consider the Judy or Dart and entry level fork...I consider them on par with WalMart.
