Wow, it looks awesome! Too bad it doesn't say XTR for everyone to see. Probably so it won't get stolen.

Eh, I don't really like it. I'm not a big fan of the ubiquitous "X's" forged all over the products. The RD is nice, but the cranks look similar to something pulled off a walmart special.

I'm sure they ride reallllly nice though!

someone over here posted some pictures of XTR cranks that he had received for photo shoots. sides of the arms were that grey-ish color, and the face was polished with "XTR" remaining in that grey-ish color.

I did a search but couldn't find what you're describing. Can you direct me to that post?

The XTR calipers look similar to the new hope calipers shown on www.singletrackworld.co.uk

looks like plastic, way too cheap looking compared to the current cranks, but time will tell when the actual models comes out this june.

If these spy photos are correct, it looks like it might be a standard 104 bolt pattern (at least the big ring and middle ring are the same BCD). That would be a good start toward making XTR a viable option. Although knowing Shimano, they are probably both 102mm.

If I remember correctly, it was previously announced that 07 XTR would be 104 BCD. I will try to find where I saw it.

Cheers,
Cris

The new XTR is infact the standard BCD as is found on XT and LX currently. Thankfully now if I pooch a chainring in 1 month I can swap it out to a much less expensive one (even if it doesn't shift as nice!!)

My verdict:
Cranks- Real purdy. Too bad you'll have to pawn off your first born to buy a pair.
Shifters- So freaking ugly. And I keep imagining crashing and having the bolt that holds the pod on shear off. That would suck.
Dereilleurs- UGLY!!!! And RapidRise. No thanks.
Brakes- probably work great, but the rotors look horrible. Calipers don't look like they've changed much.
Casette- It'll make your rear wheel turn when you pedal. It will shift crisply It will be light. It will cost an obscene amount of money. Sram PC 990, thank you very much.

For those of us who like Shimano derailleurs but not RapidRise it's a good thing they are making both rapidrise and regular.

nah, they're 104. they just require a special chainring bolt.

What's different? Dammit Shimano, you almost did it. Why must you make somethink propritary and b****y?

Well, it's picture of carbon hardtail with fat chainstays and crankarm seems to clear left chainstay with very large margin = large Q-factor . Feel free to prove otherwise...

So now I should prove that statement made without fact is in fact false. errrr, I'll do the logical thing and wait till i get my hands on one to gauge what the q-factor thanks..

Thats what logical people do

PS: Appearance based on a badly taken photo with what could be a cheap camera with distortion around the edges could mean that the image is not entirely representative

They do use different bolts on my M760 XT. They are only partially threaded so they don't work with any other rings (even older XT) without replacing the bolts.

I don't really care for the 07 XTR stuff from an aesthetic point of view; having the X's branded into each component seems a little too gimmicky for a mountain bike.

Logical person? Next you claim to be an engineer?

Cyclingnews has picture of new XTR bearing adjustment and tools. It might be improvement weight-wise but is it good design?

Actually the 'X" is one of the strongest shapes to resist torsional, compressive and tensile loads...
