Pretty sure its 66, Rocky Point Rd (rt 21) and head North until you cross whiskey road.

I used to come from the east to get there, went a diff way. Easy enough to find on mapquest though.

http://www.climbonline.org/trails.html and http://www.visionmtb.com/forumvb/index.php for any LI info you may need. I miss LI =)

Thanks...

Yeah, I'm down there a lot and I've never ridden Rocky Point. I just registered on the C.L.I.M.B. site and asked. Thanks though.

Remember that you can't ride in a DEC permit area till you get the actual permit from the DEC. You get a card to carry w/ u, and a card to display in the car at the parking area.

Exit 66 (it says Sills Rd.) and becomes Rocky Point Rd.

Right. It's like 6-10 miles from the Long Island Expressway. After Whiskey Road, the lot is on the left, comes up quick and is easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled after that last light.

Cool...

It's a good spot, right? I'm getting used to Westchester and was wondering how it compared.
I imagine more sand than rocks! I rode Calverton last week and smiled when I hit a patch of sand! Not used to that anymore!

Indeed. Imagine all the rocks on the trail replaced with either roots, sand or pine needles. Then flatten the whole thing, putting moguls where there were mountains. That's Long Island riding compared to upstate!

Actually, RP is a sublime XC ride. If you don't feel challenged, go a little faster, and you'll be teetering on the edge of disaster. Do all the diamonds, including the West End Loop, for a total of 20.6 miles. Some of the happiest moments in my life have been spent on that trail, it's very satisfying.

And when you come to an intersection that gives you the choice of the "25A Bypass" or the "Main Loop," ignore where some smartypants wrote "Christine's Shortcut." Because the main loop way holds and extra diamond section and some sweet moguls, whereas the "Bypass" is the more popular, but flatter and straighter, option. Dammit!

Hey folks- you may have seen my "visiting NYC" post. I am sitting here atlas in lap and went to the climb and vision links. I submitted for a forum membership but am waiting for the email. I will be on L.I. the last weekend of this month and have the 30th of April available to ride. I will need to rent a bike. Sunday morning I will be in Woodside in Queens and could be if needed in Holtsville near 97 and the 495. I would like to get some rental info and maybe hook up for a ride. Some of the trails look like they are within 20 or so miles of Holtsville. Anyone?

Sundays are my RP days. My pace is intermediate if you want to hitch a ride...... where's "97?"

Try the bike shops listed as sponsors on the CLIMB website, not sure which ones offer rentals, if any......

CSTEM---I think this is the only bike shop in the area that rents mountain bikes--->Rocky Point Cycle. You can also try--->Carl Hart Bicycles but I don't think they do. Both of these shops are in very close proximity to the trailhead...5 miles at the most. Good luck!!
