on-one :: now with less steel, and more gears

First shots of our Scandium frame samples, just being finished this week.

Geometry is same as 29er inbred, but 18in frames on this run have a half inch longer top tube. We might not do that for production though.

More pics here, in our gallery

Frame weight is low, but not scary low :-) They're still on-one's, they can still take a beating.

Uh...Oh no!

Another home run! This is going to be a huge hit! My prediction is that this will be a perpetual sell through. Great job, Brant, and I agree with Alex on the awesome name. Too obvious, really.

Questions: Are these from the same factory as the Salsa Scandium frames? What sizes have you slated for production? And now, the obvious questions.................. When and how much?!

Cheers.

I like Scandal, as some on-one customers thing us making an aluminium geared bike is a Scandal in itself :-)

I'm not sure if it's the same place that makes Salsa's scandium frames. It is the same place that makes Niner's SIR, though not their One9. I'll ask :-)

Price is expected to be £399 - around US$695 - with some sort of discount for pre-orders I imagine.

How are we doing?

Good job!

Hi Brant!

I hope that this frame will be available in a few weeks because this would be the racing weapon in marathon and cross country races!

Two questions, Brant:
1) You got a size 16 in the works for this one?
2) Why do you hate my single cog in the rear?

That's a very reasonable price for a Scandium frame. As I recall, the Salsa Dos Niner is at least $300.00 more, but of course, it's not quite the same thing!

So, you are doing well, me thinks. Now put down that pint, get out of that pub, and get to work!

Will this be offered in a 16" frame size?? How much lighter will it be vs. the Inbred 29er frame??

Not an official answer, but my guess is that it'll be in the same weight range as the scandium Voodoo Aizan frame. That frame has a claimed weight of 2.8 pounds according to Voodoo. That is a geared frame with no dropout plates or EBB.

Of course if goes with the dropout plates, then it'll weigh more than that.

Even if slightly heavier, that would still be pretty damned light by my standards.

how much different does a Scandium frame feel from a traditional AL frame? is it significantly more compliant?

Hey gang. Just thought I would chime in here to let you know that my 19" Aizan frame weighs in at 3.5 lbs. The 3 main tubes are scandium with 7005 stays and our sliding dropouts... - jb

The pre-order pricing looks great. Any idea of a total landed price (frame with Reba) in NC, with duties included. Also wondering if you are pre-selling complete bikes as well.
Lastly, how durable do you think the XL Scandal frames will be compared to an Inbred
for riders up to 200 pounds ? Thanks.

Will the Reba with Pop-Loc clear the DT on the 16" frames?

Stop fannying about yer-self! I'll ring you up with my Visa digits if you make a 19.5" SINGLESPEED version! I'll even name it for you, you can call it the "Scandal-Less"

I agree. I think its time for an update here about the Scandal frames. Its past "mid July", so when do you (Brant) think they will be coming?

I'm not sure I can handle waiting much longer. I want my new frame!!!

Frames now welded and heat treated and heading for anodising.
Some may be painted due to minor surface damage on some - it happens.

When we get some depends on whether we're going to air freight any or sea freight.

Not long now, really :-)

Hey Brant, Are you guys gonna do any flat or matte black steel forks? I've ordered the Scandal and the carbon fork deal, but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with the idea of carbon up front. It would be nice to know I could put a steel fork on that wouldn't looks stupid with my cool new black ano Scandal frame...
