What's On Your Music Machine?
If you don't know by now, I like to listen to music while riding. I have all sorts of different tunes on my music machine. I could list the bands/songs that I think are cool, but I would rather list some of the songs/bands that I know are not cool. So, here are some of the songs I listen to regulalry during rides that make me look like a geek/loser, but ride like a monster. This list is no BS. All true.
1. "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain. This is a very catchy song.
2. "Wannabe (Yo I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want)" by the Spice Girls.
3. "Soak Up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow.
4. "Supernova" by Liz Phair
5. "You Should Be Dancing" by the Bee Gees.
Ok, have at it, but if you do, you must list the "un-cool" songs you like.

5. Grateful Dead
6. Big and Rich
7. Chemical Bros
8. Peacemakers

1) Any song by Morrissey or the Smith's
2) "Toxic" by Britney Spears
3) Chris Issak
4) Phil Collins / Genesis (my shuttle buddies can vouch for that one)
5) Bryan Adams' Unplugged album
Thanks for lunch, this was an interesting conversation starter, for sure.

I can deal with almost all of your list, even the Morrissey crap, which automatically makes you gay. However, I cannot accept Bryan Adams. Sorry, but our friendship is terminated.

Very nice, except as I said, I did not start this thread so all you allegedly "cool" people could show me how "cool" you are by listing to your "cool" music. I want to see your "un-cool" music. Since Skinny-tire could not list his, I will do it for him. I happen to know that Skinny-tire is a Toni Basil fanatic.

Hey, and thanks for this caveat. You should have said this in a simpler way so the plebes understand. Something like this: "I am not one of those losers that listens to music while riding ..."

Any more in his defense and I am going to jump off of that two story house of yours. Bryan Adams. My god. At least Shania is hot. What do you think I imagine when I listen to her? I certainly don't have thoughts of some Canadian guy using a knife when I ride. You are scary.

I was actually trying to be funny
I heard Ryan Adams once walked off stage after some dudes at his concert started chanting for "Summer of 69"

I was actually thinking of posting a similar poll/overview too! Here's some of the more questionable items on my Forge:
Robbie Williams, Karma Killer
Big Pig, Breakaway
Bjork, Army of Me
Cyndi Lauper, Sisters of Avalon
Dead or Alive, Brand New Lover (and Something in my House)
DiVinyls, Bless My Soul
Duran Duran, Bedroom Toys (and Reach up for the Sunrise)
Erasure, Reunion
Gene Loves Jezebel, Brand New Moon
Icehouse, Cross the Border
Jewel, Intuition
Tori Amos, Glory of the '80s (and Datura)
(Caveat: I don't wear it when I'm mountain biking. It's strictly a running/roadie thing -- I need all my faculties at the ready when I'm on dirt!)
I'd also like to hear what the good recommendations are -- I'm desperate for new music.

Quarry! Yes. That'll teach me to buy my music online -- no CD case to look at. I think he's got a tommy gun in his hand, or something.
Hey...it's my favorite album for shaving my legs to. That has to mean something.

All of these are absolutely atrocious. Had you listed maybe one, two or even three of these, we could have cut you some slack. You listed twelve, and I am willing to bet you were holding back. You have two choices. You can banish yourself and give the rest of us all of your worldly possessions, or you can get the following and rock out.
1. Clash - Clampdown, Tommygun, Clash City Rockers, London Calling, Know Your Rights, Train in Vain, 1-2 Crush on You, This is Radio Clash, All The Young Punks.
If you can't get these, just get Clampdown and play it until you puke.
2. Circle Jerks - the entire Group Sex album. if you can only get one song, get World Up My A$$.
3. Meatpupets - Backwater
4. Prodigy - Breath
5. Boomtown Rats - Someone's Looking at You, Rat Trap
6. Stiff Little Fingers - Gotta Get Away, Tin Soldier, Alternative Ulster, Wasted Life, Tin Soldier, Back to Front, Barbed Wire Love
7. Van Halen - the 5150 album
8. Limp Bizkit - Nookie
9. Pixies - any song
10. Generation X - Kiss Me Deadly
Other poofta stuff
1. Soft Cell - Where Did Our Love Go
2. Bronski Beat - Don't Leave me This Way, Smalltown Boy
3. Echo and the Bunnymen - Never Stop
4. Flcok of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
5. Art of Noise - Peter Gunn

Oh, the list of questionables goes on and on. These were just the ones that jumped out at me -- like, when they recover my corpse and discover what I've been listening to, I'll be happy to be dead. And I'll be happy I wore clean undies.

You guys have far too much time on your hands...like I did once...
I don't have a music machine and I don't listen to music when I ride.
In my car, I listen to ESPN radio, FOX News on XM satellite radio and 960 - The Patriot. Plus whatever music is playing on whatever channel I flip to or whatever CD happens to be in my 6-CD changer (which never changes because I never change them).
What...ever...

As with all music, its the music and not the other stuff that counts. That is why I freely admit to listening to Shania, Soft Cell, Haircut 100 and Flock of Seagulls. Good music trumps
sh!tty image. The Clash, despite Should I Stay, its notoriety, and everything else, is simply the best punk band ever. Even your boy Rollins knows that. Talk about overrated. He singlehandedly ruined Black F@g.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned:
Michael Jackson- anything from the history cd - his later stuff (post 94') sucks
Aqua - Barbie girl - like once every 6 months... tops.
I have like 3 of those NOW cd's. Holy crap those suck!
I swear every thing else is cool.

I can't to hear your oafish answer...

I'll start with this:
- "Rise Above" (Ginn) 2:26
- "Spray Paint" (Dukowski/Ginn) 0:33
- "Six Pack" (Ginn) 2:20
- "What I See" (Dukowski) 1:55
- "TV Party" (Ginn) 3:31
- "Thirsty and Miserable" (Cadena/Medea/ROBO) 2:05
- "Police Story" (Ginn) 1:32
- "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie" (Ginn) 1:47
- "Depression" (Ginn) 2:28
- "Room 13" (Ginn/Medea) 2:04
- "Damaged II" (Ginn) 3:23
- "No More" (Dukowski) 2:25
- "Padded Cell" (Dukowski/Ginn) 1:47
- "Life of Pain" (Ginn) 2:50
- "Damaged I" (Ginn/Rollins) 3:50
Looks like Rollins co-wrote only one song on the "Greatest Punk Album Of All Time". Give me a break dude. Rollins was merely a front man that Black Flag thought would look good with all those tatoos and muscles. Sort of like Walt. Looks good, but no substance. The essence of Black Flag, such as Nervous Breakdown, is all Ginn and Morris. Indeed, your precious Damaged is virtually all non-Rollins material. Everything Went Black is mostly Ginn and Morris. No Rollins.
Rollins became the focus of the band because of his muscles and tatoos. Ginn once stated that after Rollins joined, "We couldn't do songs with a sense of humor anymore; he got into the serious way-out poet thing."
Rollins also is famous because of his frequent fistfights with audience members. These became so common that the instrumentalists would generally keep playing while Rollins dashed offstage to duke it out for a few minutes. When the fight was over, Rollins would rejoin the group, and they'd pick up right where they left off.
Yea, Rollins destroyed Black Flag. Look what happened to them after he joined.
That voice! Ouch. He was simply a bleating hoarse tuff guy dumb ass.
On top of all this, there was once a point in his "career" (ooh) where he basically critisized everything and said it all sucked, except for him. Now he does poetry and has TV shows and is always talking about that friend of his that died. Dude, talk about uncool. If I had some tatoos and muscles and wanted to join Black Flag back in 1981, I would be considered the "greatest punk of all time" instead of Rollins.
Does he sell his poetry books at Borders?

If this is your long winded way of saying Black Flag and HR suck, I'd have to agree. I saw HR in concert once, and I have to admit, I was bored out of my mind. He's terrible (and a bad actor to boot).

Booyaaa Riggse. With Skinny-Tire's statements, I have all the authority I need. Rollins is officially a donkey's a$$. I suggest you find a new idol to worship. May I suggest Boy George.

Rollins aside, I bet we can agree that Chuck Biscuits was the best punk drummer in history. He played drums for DOA, one of the best all time punk bands ever. DOA, not Bryan Adams, was Canada's finest musical import. DOA's "Lets Fu*k" still puts a smile on my face.

Sorry, but Billy Squire, Europe and Right Said Fred. Man!
We've got porn is right. Hot. Makes me think of Berlin's song - "Sex".

Hey I like Supernova - why did you include it in your "loser" list?
Anyway, some a$$hole just stole my MP3 player at the gym, so I'm song-less now. I don't listen to music when I ride - only when I run (have to because running is sooooo fargin' boring) or lift weights (music over the loudspeakers SUCKS), so my mid-week runs have become agonizing and my gym sessions have deteriorated into a "tamborine music" classic rock headache.
Before my MP3 player was lifted I was listening to the following stuff:
Green Day - American Idiot
Pixies - Doolitle
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
Violent Femmes - Viva Wisconsin (live)
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Killers - Hot Fuss (great album to run to)
Blink 182 - Blink 182
Sugarcubes - Best Of
Smiths - Queen is Dead
Doves - Lost Souls
Format - Interventions & Lullabies
Perry Ferrell - Song Yet to be Sung
If anybody finds a RaveMP with these albums on it...it's mine
Thx...Doug

1. Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic - Red Hot Chili Peppers (still their best)
2. Live at the Olympic Auditorium - Rage Against the Machine
3. Portrait of Jaco... the early years - Jaco Pastorius
4. The Ozell Tapes - Marcus Miller
5. The Central Park Concert - Dave Matthews Band
Those are always in the MP3. Other stuff comes and goes. Stuff like 311, various anthologies (Isley Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, Brothers Johnson, Bootsy Collins, Parliament/Funkadelic, etc.) and "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" books on tape.
Just kidding about the last one.
BTW, whoever had "Kind of Blue" listed, my helmet's off to ya'. That is one of the greatest recordings ever... PERIOD!

Shania Twain's music may be uncool....but jeezus what a bod. Ever see one of her music videos? I have. For the life of me I can't remember the music -- all I remember was that face and body.
And it doesn't end there. As much as I *hate* country music, those country chicks are hot. How is that? Is there something in the water?
Ok - you want dorky music? Hmm...I really don't have anything on my MP3 player, but there are a few dorky CD's hidden in my collection, mostly crap from the 70's/80's that I once liked - Supertramp, Kansas, Foreigner, Phil Collins. The dorkiest? Stryper :-0
I did go to a KC and the Sunshine Band concert about 5 years ago. It was fun. I danced. That's pretty dorky too.
Thx...Doug

i think waltaz has been brainwashed by FOX news...
...blaming mayors for federal blunders and ripping on the former president for getting a blow job? perhaps you might want to look at the current administration's unncanny ability for using euphemisms and "the blame game". what's worse: screwing an intern or screwing the country?
it was rhetorical. no need to answer..........
"brownie, you're doin' a heck of a job."

Most hated song
The most universally hated song I have is the Donna’s cover of Air supply’s “I can’t stop loving you”, It sounds like a bunch of deaf pirate hookers singing in the shower…Everyone I know hates this song with a passion when they hear it. But for some reason I love it…

These rock...
I'm really digging these while riding right now: - Dead - Brown Eyed Women - Europe '72
- Dead - Me and Bobby McGee - listen to Jerry in the background
- Marshall Tucker Band - This 'Ol Cowboy
- Grandmaster Flash - White Lines
- Springsteen - The River
- Dire Straits - Wild West End
- Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love
- Divinyls - I Touch Myself
- Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine
- Stones - You Got the Silver
- Matisyahu - King Without a Crown, Heights - Live at Stubbs
That's just a brief sample I wanted to get out there...I need to go through and update my iPod and when I do, I'll give a complete playlist

Walt, Walt, Walt..................
"THE" quintessential Jerry is still, Jerry Garcia Band's "Jerry Garcia Band" 1991 live double cd.
His second guitar solo on "Deal" is so beautiful I tear up just thinking about it. Find it and download it or I can loan it to you.
But if your a fan you probably know just what I'm talking about.

I dont actually listen to anythng while riding. I like to enjoy the silence, lungs wheezing and chain slapping
But on the drive there its all out. My current and old favorites:
Against Me! "Searching For A Former Clarity" whole album rocks.
Against All Authority "The Restoration of Chaos And Order" again, whole album is good
Anti--Flag "Police Story", A New Kind of Army" "The Press Corpse" anything really
Authority Zero "A Passage in Time" album
Bad Religion: Anything from 27 albums i have of theirs
Bedouin Soundclash: "Sounding a Mosaic" album
Bouncing Souls "Giving Gravity a Hand" or the new "The Gold Record"
Camper Van Beethoven: Anything, its all good
Circle Jerks: "Group Sex" or "IV" albums
The Casualites: "For the Punx" or "On the Front Line" albums, can never have to much gutter punk
Common Rider: "Small Pebble"
Dropkick Murphy's: any album really
Flatfoot 56: anything, they are friends from Chicago.
From Ashes Rise "The Final Goodbye"
Greg Graffin "Cold as the Clay" New solo album from Bad Religion's frontman
Hatebreed: "You're Never Alone"
In Flames "Clayman"
Iron Maiden "Live After Death" album
Jaya The Cat "First Beer of a New Day" album
The Lawrence Arms: any album, again friends from Chicago
Motorhead: anything really, but the new album "Kiss of Death" rocks
Murder By Death "Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left of Them" album
Pennywise: "Watch Me as I Fall" "My Own Country" or anything from their 13 albums
Pistol Grip: "The Rebels are Dead"
Propagandhi: "Potemkin City Limits" album
Raised Fist: "Get This Right!"
The Real McKenzies "10,000 Shots" album
Rise Against: anything really, another Chicago connection
The Rugby Mothers: "I'm Happy I'm Glad"
Sex Pistols: anything
Sick of it All: anything
Social Distortion: "Don't Drag Me Down"
Stray Bullets: "America"
Suicidal Tendencies: anything
Thats just my current regular rotation, my 60GB iPod is full, not to mention another 560GB of tunes on the server at home I can honestly say I havn't listened to the radio in about 5 years.
