This is my new ride. I really want a trance but at this point the cost is to high for the amount of riding I will do and the local trails don't warrent a soft tail.So I figure its a good bike to start riding again It replaces my old hard tail with a ridge fork
2007 17" Giant Iguana Canadian edition
Marzocchi MZ pro front fork
Deore derailers
Hayes mx2 disc
since this picture I removed the reflectors

Here is my new ride! 14 inch Giant XTC, RockShox Duke XC (just for now...I have a SID I'll be racing next summer), SRAM X.7, Race Face Ride XC 22/32/44T, Avid Single Digit 5, SRAM PG 950 11-34T, 9-speed, Shimano PD-M520.....yah....I think we're replacing my cassette with a PG970 and the Easton EA50 handlebar something lighter and more cutdown. And I'm definitely replacing the Hutchinson pythons for something with better grip!! But sweeeeet!! I love it. I named it, too, hahaha: Bretty. (After my doggie and best buddy - who died midlife last year from Leukemia). He was a fearless, do-it-my-way, Saint Bernard who fought till the end. Anyways, here it is:
Oh man, you bought ANOTHER BMX bike?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!
Bretty looks good.
Bushman71 - welcome to MTBR! Now go ride your bike!!!!! Quickly, before the fluffy white **** starts to fly.

The reflectors are gone I would have removed sooner but I picked the bike up from the lbs as I was leaving for Algonquin park.My first ride on it was the Minnings trail really muddy and lots of fun, with a little snow and ice. Its a vast improvement over my last ride (Nakamuria cougar) that was 10yrs old. I would really like to get a Trance but need to see how active I will become in riding again.
Is fanshawe still open for riding and what can I expect?
The Bike Show was almost a month ago. What are you waiting for!!!
Give her a nice "shake down" run. Go...Go Now....We will wait.
Nice Rocky BTW.
The Fox float was stuck down when I got the bike.. got a real sweet deal on it but had to wait for new seals from fox, free of charge. Then I repaired the shock (wasn't easy) a week ago and so far so good... Gone on one good ride but since then it has rained almost non stop. That and work tends to get in the way... She's a sweet ride fursure. Thanx for the comment..
Here are my rides. Finally got them clean after last weekends mudfest on the Don and ready for Hilton this weekend.
The Spec belongs to my 9 yr old son.
here's a nice pic of my 98 voodoo zobop along with 03 specialized hardrock.
the old zobop has 01 marzocchi z-3 and 03 fox r susp. and 03 lx + xt divetrain
trip to my home country, korea! although they do import zobop in korea, they are expensive and quite rare(especially the old ones). my friends were excited to see my rig!
at the time, the brakeset on hardrock was yet to be installed.
after installing hyes sole. i've got this bike as a bare frame. after recieving dmr sidekick cro-mo dirtjuming fork , acera crack , sram rocket twister shifter , alivio and deore derailer and last but not least xt+rhino lite wheelset , it was good to go!
i am a high school student, so i worked on an extremely tight budget
as of now, i installed a rack and she serves as a great commuter to school
Here it is! Just built it up this past week and took it out for the maiden ride. What an improvement from the tired '03 frame.
2004 NRS3 frame with Float AVA-RL shock
2004 Marzocchi Marathon SL 120mm fork
XT Hollowtech II 170mm crankset
2003 Avid BB disk brakes with Speed Dial 7 levers
XTR shifters
XTR front derailleur
XT rear derailleur
XT 11-34 cassette
Cane Creek Disc V wheels (roll like crazy but heavy)
Panaracer Cinder 2.1's
Easton Monkey Lite bar
ODI clamp on grips
Titec Knucklehead DH, 90mmx10° stem
FSA ACB sealed headset
Thomson Elite seat post
Time Atac Alium pedals (heavy!)
Approximate weight, 28lbs
...and the road/training bike. I think it's from the early '90's. Gardin bicycle company was a small, Toronto based company specialising in high end track/road bikes. This thing is sweet. Crazy smooth rolling sealed bearing (HB-RM50) hubs, Shimano 300EX drivetrain and 500EX brakes, PD-1058 pedals which I think were some of the first LOOK style pedals to come out. I turfed the antique seat and am using the seat shown on the NRS in the above picture.

My Singlespeed
Had a Raleigh 26er frame from a few years back and an XT crankset and Peter at Misfit Psycles built it up and converted it to a single speed complete with misfit hubs, rigid fork, and tensioner. Took it out for its maiden voyage this weekend and it runs smooth. BUY BUY BUY
Here's my 05 Specialized Rockhopper.
Recently upgraded from v-brakes to Juicy 5's and XT triggers.
Also has CrankBrothers Mallet M pedals.
Get's the job done for a starving university student.
Three is too many but they all get ridden. If my back stays ****ed up I might have to lose the rigid singlespeed. These are the only pictures of them clean that you will ever see...

Love seeing everyone's rides on here...there's something beautiful about every one of them.
Here's some pics from last year. The Trek will be getting a Fox Float 80 RL fork this year. Other changes will be minor...different tires on each bike, lock-on grips all around, stuff like that.
Just picked it up Thursday. Took it out for a ride through Kelso yesterday. Love it!!!
Full carbon fiber frame, bars and seat post. the Fox float forks are 08 and the front rotor is a 180 mil unit instead of the 160 mil. Ful XTR. Light as hell and strong.
I'll be there most days this week. Likely there between 9:30 am and 10:00 on Tuesday and Thursday. I've only done two rides on it so I'm still getting used to it. I like that it is light but at times it feels a little too light. My old bike is a Giant Reign, that bike is heavier but I have to say except for weight it is at least 90% the bike the Mojo is.
I still prefer the Mojo but I have to get used to how light the front end is. It is lifting on me when I climb (have to change my body position from what worked on the Reign) and it seems to was out on some quick corners. Perhaps I'm carring more speed, or I should swap over the tires on the Reign (Nevegals 2.3 Stickee vs 2.1's on the Mojo)? Or just need to "become one with the new bike".
Overall I'm loving the bike. It feels very alive, and the weight savings helps in the ability to control the bike not just on climbs.
I'll see you out there

yeah, that was me. Had fun. I'm not sure I would give it the 5 out of 5 most riders do though. Good place to familiarize myself with the new bike.
One thing I did notice is that there are lots of female riders and teams compared to other trails. Is that always the case or was there somethig going on? It was a good thing.
I think the Fly Girlz team was doing a group ride and/or training for Ocup, I noticed they were riding the Ocup course.
I was the guy with the white Surly SS, I ran into you around the area of those two drops with a bunch of other people.
I had a lot of fun at Buckwallow, but I found it was lacking a bit of flow in some areas. Like you finish a lot of fairly short trails and then it is off to find another trail. Overall a fun place to ride and improve technical skills. I'd definitely go back.
I think it would be great if there were that many woman riding all the time.
I also thought Buckwallo (sp?) could have had much more flow. I found I wasn't riding as fast as I normally do. The rock was fun, its easier than the stuff at Hilton Falls and has a better character. More flow on their rocks, Hilton feels more choppy (Bent Rim).
Still getting used to the difference in clearance between the old Reign (lots) and the new Ibis (less but good). Also my ew pedals are not releasing me as freely as they shoud. Other than that I'm really enjoying it. The bike feels fast (actually it is quick) and easy to manage.
'05 Gary Fisher Marlin - Just picked it up on the weekend.
I thought I'd put an updated picture up. I have done a bunch of updates since I got the bike a couple years ago.
I have updated:
Forks - White Brothers
Wheels - Hope XC and DT Swiss 5.1 (36 Hole)
Crank - Stylo Team
Pedals - Eggbeaters SL
Front Rotor - 7"
Cassette - Sram 991
I think thats all thats worthy of note. I think I'm going to end up replacing the frame at some point and transferring over all the new parts. I find the Marlin frame flexes side to side at the bottom bracket so I'm thinking I might look at a steel frame at some point.
'07 Norco Storm 20" Frame in '06 clothing (It's the '07 7005 aluminum frame, but was built up as an '06 with the '06 finish. A real '06 would have been 6061).
Upgrades are:
Kalloy Uno flat bar
Rocky Mountain 120mm stem
Avid FR-5 Levers
XT M761 FD
RF Evolve DH post
Selle Italia NT1 saddle
Specialized Stout Disc front 32 3x to mavic XM317 rims (not pictured)

CST 1.5" slicks
VP DH SPD-compatible pedals.
A couple new toys in my shed...my Norco CCX One, and my brother's Fuji Newest 2.0. Should be good for some fall tours
And of course for riding on dirt, my Kona Cinder Cone with a bunch of upgraded bits. It doesn't stay that clean for long
Here's my ride. Not some super-duper high dollar machine like the rest! But it gets me out burning the gut off
Side note: I *thought* MTBing would be a cheap healthy hobby.

Wow, you are going to run out of things to upgrade soon. Maybe XT cranks and brakes?
Honest question though. Have you noticed a big difference in the bikes performance as a result of upgrading the wheels, stem, bar, seatpost... with lighter stuff?

LOL I know, but I like the frame so I'm just building up around it
I'm going to run the Sole's until they explode again, and when they do they will be replaced with mechanicals, not hydros. Haven't decided on the cranks yet, maybe over the winter they will be swapped. My Norco has treated me to a decent crankset and the shifting is a million times smoother.
I didn't swap the stem, bar and seatpost for weight savings...the bar and stem was for a lower bar height, and the seatpost was actually for no real reason lol...everything just happened to be lighter than stock
Not sure if the wheels will make a difference, can't really test now that the 8x12 series is done, but they are noticeably stiffer and lighter so it's easier to pick up the front end over roots and such.
Thanks man I love both the 303 and 575
I am now hot on the hunt for the ultimate 6 inch + do it all bike
Short list is 08 Foes FXR Titus el guapo Turner rfx Yeti 7
Haven't gotten much of a chance to ride it since the snow came so early this year in Newfoundland. Should post the spec too I guess:
My Blindside:
Size small, white.
Cane Creek Double Barrel
Rock Shox Totem Coil
Saint Cranks w/ Transition chain guide
Hope Mono M4's
DT Swiss FR440 laced to Alex Supra D's
X9 shifting with XT cassette
...lots of other goodies too
My Nomad (Pictures to follow):
Size Medium, red.
Cane Creek Double Barrel w/ Ti spring
Pike 454 Air w/ remote lock out
FSA Afterburner Cranks w/ Truvativ Shift Guide
Juicy 7's with danger boy levers
King rear hub/DT 340 front, laced to Mavic XM321's
X9 shifting with PG990 Cassette
...also lost of other treats
My new Kona Hei Hei
It weighs 24 pounds flat, which I think is outstanding for a full suspension bike, considering it doesn't have particularly lightweight parts, besides the fork.

That's a great looking bike! 24lbs is fantastic for a full suspension with that build.
Steelwool Sweetcity SS
Surly 1x1
Zion 737EBB 29er
Misfit Psycles DiSSent 29er
Those are some beautiful bikes. I have been thinking about getting a SS and these pictures makes me want to get one even more. Still need to decide if a 29er is for a guy who is 5'8" though.
I would try to test ride one. Peter at Misfit sometimes has demos at some of the events around Ontario.
I think the height/29er thing is debateable. I am not overly tall, about 5' 10" and I have been riding the Zion for about 3 weeks now and feel very comfortable on it. I rode a Misfit in the summer for a couple weeks and same thing.
Takes a bit of getting used to in the tight technical stuff, but once you adjust, its usually a non issue, and it feels very smooth everywhere else. I still like my 26er too, but as of late I am trying to keep the racey/nicer bikes inside until the weather warms up. Zion will remain my main ride for the next little while.
Hey Arek, both are White Industries ENO cranksets, 175mm crank arms and 32T ring. Any luck selling the Intense yet? Looking forward to seeing you out on the trails in good form again (back on a singlespeed of course).

Damn Tom,
I haven't seen either the Zion or the Misfit. They are both very nice.
Are you going to be riding the Misfit and the Zion this year?
Do you still have the Surly?
Hope the training is going well, May is coming soon.
Cheers, Dave
ps Hello to Arek too
Hey Dave, good to hear from you. Still have the Surly, although I am rebuilding the wheels so it is not rideable at the moment. My intentions are to keep it and still ride it next season for the random trail rides. I built up the Zion because they were on blowout at Jenson and I had a fair bit of spare parts. I use it as a Winter bike to prevent the nicer parts from getting destroyed by salt etc. I actually really like the bike, more than I thought I would!
The Misfit is going to be my primary race bike for the season. For longer endurance events either the Surly or Zion will become a backup bike.
I am probably on the trainer far less than I should be. I have started doing 1 hour per week in addition to a 2-3 hour night ride (on the trails at Hilton) on Tuesday and Friday nights. Then on Sunday I have been getting out for another 2-3 hour ride on the trails. Decent, but I'd like to mix in a longer session midweek on the trainer. It gets tough with full time school and part time work.
I do have a trip planned to Colorado during the first week of May to ride Grand Junction/Frutia/Moab (2-3 days) and the Kokopelli Trail (3 days). I estimate that I will log maybe 350km or a little more on the trip. Apparently there will be a ton of climbing.
I'll have a week off once I get back before the 24 hour. I imagine I should use that time to recover and hydrate myself?
You guys should come out for some winter rides at Hilton!

Not to Hijack but here is a question I have been wondering about. Been thinking of building up a 29er SS. Wondered which you preferred - the aluminum or steel frames. What do you think the pros and cons are? And if you could have only one which one would you have?
I haven't rode my Misfit to compare yet, but I rode a Misfit demo in the summer for a couple of weeks. I noticed the feel of the material in the frame more so on my 26er/1x1 than I do on the 29ers I have ridden.
One example,,, I did not like my Bontrager switchblade (fork that is now on the Zion) when it was on my surly. The aluminum felt harsh, and I switched to the pace carbon. On the Zion with the bigger wheels it doesn't bug me at all. I think the feel is more dependent on the design of the frame and size of the wheels. Also I am under 140 lbs, so I probably don't flex the metal as much as some would.
Aluminum is stiffer... I know Peter at Misfit said he finds steel to feel squishy as he is bigger and cranks out more power than my spindley legs can.
If I could have/afford something like a custom Independent Fabrications frame, I'd probably go with steel, seeing as it would be made with a nicer grade steel rather than the heavier 4130 cromo in the Surly/Zion. But given the two 29er bikes I have, and my budget, I'd stick with the aluminum for the little bit of weight savings (amongst the other pro's to the Misfit - top tube clearance, and sliding dropouts).
Any luck selling the Intense yet? Looking forward to seeing you out on the trails in good form again (back on a singlespeed of course).
I've had no interest in my Spider (neither from buyers or myself ). Maybe closer to spring, I hope.
Your diSSent looks absolutely killer. That's what I'd love to do - build one up to my own spec.
Stan's wheels - are you running them tubeless?

hey Kaik, I am not a dude, but a gal who rides a Misfit Dissent 29er... and I am only 5'4"... I love it... you should take one out for a spin!
