Not all D Dubs created equal?

So I love my DWSpot, I started middle of the road in terms of build but have created two distinct builds; super light and AM. With the cold coming on and me fighting H1H1 for two weeks I went to the WW build and have been digging it. So I scored a deal on an Ibis Mojo SL and threw all my WW parts at it so I wouldn't need to keep swapping parts onto the Spot. I figured a D Dub was a D Dub was a D Dub but... Tonight I had the first ride on my WW Mojo SL and was shocked to find that not all D Dubs are created equal. The Mojo pedals like sh!t. I felt like I was pedaling into the BB and not the rear hub. With the Spot every effort finds it's way into the wheel, moving you forward. I tried different pressures and played with rebound and pp settings but my experience tells me a shitty frame is a shitty frame no matter how you set up the suspension. Anywho, I'll give it one more go but will probably off the Mojo SL and get another 5Spot frame or just keep swapping parts like a polygamist on Viagra. Here's an obligatory shot of the Ibis Mojo SL or Ginaspecial as it were...

Hmmm, and the mojo is setup just like the spot was? Same tires, and suspension setup?

Hoty????

Is that what you look like after 6 Dale's and a couple of shots of G3? Yowsa!

If you buy another spot just for a lighter build you deserve the coveted "HOMER of the YEAR" award...heh,hee!

Wow, good to know other DW's are crap compared to the Turner, have you guys told the Ibis owners their bikes suck and how superior the Turner's are?

I'm sure they would be grateful.

Really I was surprised the geo feels fine and these are all my extra and light components but the rear doesn't have that platform and snap like the Spot. Me and Dyna swapped and his 08' Spot with the Cane Creek pedaled better no sh!t. I'm heading out in a half hour for one more shot but am not holding out much hope. I guess all the telling Mojo owners their bikes sucked was true.

What the heck does "pedaling into the BB and not the rear hub" even mean? I have owned Unified Rear Triangle bikes and Faux-Bar bikes and ridden many other types of bikes and never experienced any feeling like that (although I am not sure I would even recognize it if I had a bike that pedaled into the BB). Did you remember to put the chain on? A friend that owns a Flux (which I think would pedal as good or better than a 5-Spot) went with me and demoed a Mojo and a Pivot Mach 5. We swapped around all on the same trail all day with all three bikes. We both thought all pedaled great. The Pivot had the least small bump compliance and bob and felt the most efficient. Mojo had the most small bump compliance but still had very little bob.

I have a Mach 429 with an XC build and a Sultan that's built more like a trail bike. And yes, they have some different characteristics. The Pivot seems to pedal better, but without trying the same wheels on both bikes, it's not really a fair comparison. The Sultan is definitely more comfortable on the descents, but a lot of that is due to the better fork and better rubber on the Sultan. I'll probably try the Sultan wheels on the Pivot later on this weekend and see how the ride on the Pivot changes.

I feel like my pedal stokes are going down, bob sort of but mostly a mushy platform. The bike is reacting to my pedaling. The spot reacts to bumps not pedaling even with a coil.

Interesting observations.

A friend of mine has a Mojo, and seeing some of the insanely steep shite he climbed on that thing first sparked my interest in the DW design. His Mojo was certainly very efficient, and capable heading up the steeps.

Your Spot build must be really light, because I also find it odd that you refer to your Spot as having platform and snap. Maybe it's my heavy build and tires robbing me of said snap.

Right now the Spot has the heavy build, joplin, mx coil, lyric, dt1750 wheels and the mojo has all the light stuff but feels dead and mushy by comparison. WTF?

Even more bizarre.

I guess you can give thanks for the fact that an apparent anomaly is working out in your favor.

What tires are you running on your Spot heavy build?

He ain't runnin' no air shock, A. He's got that MX Tune that I'm a little leery of. It seems like it could be a bit more "snappy" and you can really dial down the compression to make it super stiff @ hish speed shaft speeds. I sat on his spot today and I didn't feel the "snappy" rebound.

Are you saying that his coil shock provides more snap than my air shock?

Spot; Highroller front, nevegal rear. Mojo; Highroller front larsen tt rear. When I have RP23 on the Spot it's a bit snappier. I just went outside and pedaled both the Mojo and SPot around and you can see quite a bit of movement when pedaling the Mojo and none when pedaling the Spot. The sag on the mojo is is only like 13mm, it's very plush but way too much movement on pedaling.

Sounds weird I know, but you need to feel his shock. Combine a high compression tune and the "anti-squat" of the DW and you got yourself a pretty stiff ride. Doesn't surprise me with a Moto/sportbike background. I rode it once and I was happy to be back on my RFX. Dif strokes for Dif folks...I'd like to give your bike a crack.

This is what I'd expect regarding the DHX vs. RP23, and what I've experienced when swapping between air and coil.

Maybe the Mojo needs more rebound damping... or propedal. I've found that my Spot feels more balanced with quite a bit of rebound dialed in, and just a touch of propedal (this is with a stock RP23 having light rebound and compression tune). YMMV of course.

Tried both, all the rebound and then 2 clicks back from full. PP on, off 1,2,3 etcetera. I've only been riding a short time but I suspect that this is just the way this frame is, a little bobby. I'd be interested to try another mojo, I do have an 09' Pushed RP23 with the same dimensions I can try but it's a bit of work to swap the bushings and I really think it's just the design.

You've already determined that DW is overpriced hype, for riders with more money than sense (I recall you saying that, though I forget your exact wording). Giving you additional biased ammo against the DW would be a disservice, and would surely lead to more of your painfully vocal anti-DW rhetoric.

If you literally want to crack my frame, I am also going to pass.

Oh, whaa!

You've got to loosen up a bit. The DW movement may very well be the best thing that ever happened to Turnerbikes, however, it's somewhat lost on me at the moment. My RFX has served me well, and at this point in time Turner does not offer a DW version that is comparable.

"If I were a rich man" the 5spot would be top five for strictly XC. If nothing else, I'd just beat the beJesus out of it. After watching Eric's Tracer in action with the CCDB, I'm pretty impressed with Intense as well. No matter what DT thinks.

Correct. Turner only offers superior DW-link bikes at this point in time, no comparable models.

Maybe post over in the Ibis forus and see if anyone else has similar experience with the Mojo and if they were able to resolve it. Many of the reviews comparing the DW bikes don't seem to indicate the results you are seeing so you may need to give it a little more research. In the end though the Spot may just hit the er, spot for you...

All that gets discussed in the Ibis forum is how to save weight

why are you running the highrollers on the front? The nevegal is a terrible rear tire.

The Highrollers have good front end cornering grip and I was using Nevegals for a while so I'm trying to use up my last but have been checking out Minions and like those. But mostly I'm a retard.
