LA Road Rage Trial
Is anyone else following this story? You should be...
It's all over velonews and several other news outlets. Trial is underway right now, could have big implications for cyclist's rights. Currently it seems to be looking good for cyclists. Go to www.velonews.com and read up on what happened. Scary stuff.

"If convicted of all charges, Thompson could spend up to five years in prison."
This is not enough prison time, he should also never be given another drivers license.

Oh yeah, that a-hole. Five years seems reasonable for assault with a deadly weapon, but it's too bad they couldn't get him for attempted murder. And yes he should have his license taken away. People who use a gun to commit a crime lose their right to legally own a gun, so why shouldn't someone who uses a motor vehicle to commit a crime lose their right to drive?

Interesting, the article says that the reading of the verdict was the first time cyclist supporters outnumbered Dr. Thompson supporters in the courtroom. Apparently there's still a large population who feels that he was totally justified.
I'm glad the jury saw the obvious.

After jail time they should take away his driving privileges and see what it is like to bike commute in LA.

Apparently if you are an emergency room doctor living in L.A., you are above the right of having to deal with such frivolous silly things such as guilt and conscience that tend to have repercussions such implementing respect to others on the road.... especially to cyclists. But after reading the L.A. Trial stories, I guess he got what he wanted which was to teach the 2 cyclists a lesson. Lesson learned. What a sht-bag, now he's looking at 10 years in jail, I hope he feels that his actions of teaching others a lesson was worth it!

Careful, Stylie.
C. Thompson is apparently above guilt and conscience, but he isn`t the only ER doc in LA. Gotta watch out for generalizations if you don`t want to get lumped in with the messenger hipsters, the wrong way Charlies plodding along on the left shoulder, and the racerboys in training who like to blow through stops at full speed.
But yeah, good thing they had the 911 recordings to contradict what he tried to say later at the trial.

I don`t know if it`s too late (sentencing is in just a few weeks), but I just read an article that says the defense is planning to present a whole pile of public comments in favor of Doc T. and the prosecution is soliciting cyclists` comments to counter with. Here`s the article, including the DA`s address in case anybody else wants to give input:
