makes good tv... a "super d" race would be awesomesauce and be very good tv. you could even set wireless live web feed network of the race and other events... but that might open up a can of worms...

This city of mine could use a little distraction and something to look forward to, considering the city is bankrupt, has little to offer its citizens, loses money to corruption, and loves to waste time on politician's egos.
However you look at it, things cannot get any worse! The Pan Am games can only make things better!

With some of the events being at UofT Scarborough Campus it will force the TTC to replace the SRT finally.
Too bad this couldn't have forced the city to change it's views on the Rouge for mtbing.

It's the velodrome in Hamilton that has me excited. Looks like I'll have to add another bike to the stable!

Brings back memories of Curt Harnett! Formerly from Northern Ontario and my former neighbour in Leaside. Nice guy and strong supporter for cycling sports.

Olympic length velodrome for years to come is the main benefit as I see it. One of 2 in north america so we should have top class racing coming from all around the northeastern US and Eastern Canada long after the games.

I have heard that the Don is still a serious option for the XC venue. It has not been permanently been removed from the list.

i think the don would make a great venue, and be reflective of the entire cycling community
in the gta/to... plus where can you mtb in a center of a large city anywhere in the world?
plus it is a truly public space maintained by volunteers/city with a sense of stewardship shown.
lets see how it stacks up against other venues (we all know where they are )...
• Serve the needs of the athletes
yup right by the don athletes village, hospitals, consulates, media centers, resturants, shopping, where the other places could be a several hours drive away depending on traffic.
.
• Meet or exceed IF standards for
each sport;
easily done
• Create an important legacy in the
community and high-performance
sport;
yes, it is a public space that anyone can access and train on free of charge and maintained
by the community with established trail plans.
• Provide ambitious but appropriate
spectator and media capacity;
easily done, so many great viewing zones. also see below
• Enhance spectator experience with
comfort, convenience, location, design
and features;
-hotels, bike shops resturants, great viewing all nearby and easily accessable
people can walk, ride their bike, bike paths, take public transport
-also within wireless network range so the use of webcams can easily
broadcast the entire race on the web for world wide viewing
-paved paths, signage, traffic control, experienced police etc all there already
• Offer back-of-house facilities that meet
the same high-performance standards
as the fields of competition;
once again your right by the dons athletes village, world class hospitails (sunnybrook), universities/colleges, sci-center etc...
• Meet targets for social responsibility
in terms of accessibility, inclusivity and
environmental sensitivity;
actually all venues fail in this area except the don if you look at in a unbiased manner.
-only the don the fast majority of citizens can reach through public transportation, trains, cycling, walking etc...
-truly a non autocentric location in the heart of the city
-a well established stewardship and transparent trail plan. huge community/volunteer involvement
-does not charge money for its use or plan to so accessible for all income levels
-a truly multi culture location in canada's largest city
• Be ready and operational by 2014.
easily done with a large experienced volunteers base, experenced trail construction contractors who worked in the area and the city before. the exceptance of innovative trail building techniques and a internationally recognized trail standards.

Just hope it doesn't rain I don't like the don in the rain, and we do need parking, there are some of us that don't live in the city so I need a place to park and I drive a truck not one of the those little sh&*% *&s things it's a full size truck, and I don't like those smart car parking spots you guy have down there but I do have three ball hitch receiver on the back for parking by sound. Maybe I could use uncle Joe's truck camper can you park overnight on the streets down there, Should I bring my bear protection shotgun(south of Hwy 7rule) for late at night? Or is that gun hating Mayor still there?
And I think my poncho is real, how do you tell?

Cannot wait for Velodrome!!!!
To not have to make the trek to London, to use the track bike I built up last season, has me pumped. I went ballistic when I found out. Made my investment all the more worth it.
The location of FCV is pretty much the only thing that really made me not consider getting into Track racing. I can't wait for it to be open for business.
