Anyone know of a weldless way to make a cargo bike?
Anyone seen or know of a weldless way of making a cargo bike? I'm familiar with the Xtracycle but it's too expensive for me. I'd like to see what you guys have heard and seen.

What are you looking to carry? You can carry a lot of weight on a bike if you fit it with a back rack and front pannier racks.
The old fashioned touring way of carrying stuff on bike, with a back rack for stuff on top and in panniers, panniers in front, and a handlebar bag on top, results in lots of carrying capacity, admittedly not for really big stuff tho.

I'm looking for a bike that can haul one person (not including the rider providing locomotive power) and 6 reusable grocery bags, or two 4x8 foot sheets of 1" thick plywood. I was thinking a tandem frame would be a great starting point, but I'm trying to do everything with a budget of under $100.

The only way to do that for under $100 would be to kludge up some type of trailer. Otherwise, this is what you need. http://surlybikes.com/frames/big_dummy_frame/ Jenson has it for $699. |

I don't want to deal with the length of a bike trailer and I really like what I've seen in the longtail cargo bikes. Also, I haven't seen a bike trailer that will let me carry a person and 6 full reusable grocery bags. |

Xtracycle. They're probably the best option, outside of home made.
edit: nevermind, I didn't catch the $100 budget.
