All the coyote's I've ever seen have been really skittish and always take off long before I get anywhere near them, but then again I've only seen solitary one's. This story will definitely raise my awareness though, poor girl indeed

The Skyline Trail (where she was hiking) is one of the most incredible hikes ever. Within a few minutes, we saw moose and whales. No coyotes though. Thought a German tourist might get killed by a moose when she refused to move as a moose browsed past her within inches.

So easy to think you're always safe when out in nature.

I saw a coyote scurrying across our lawn a couple of weeks ago while taking the pups out for a late night nature call. We hear them regularly, but don't really worry about them a whole lot. At least it's not quite like the pack of wolves hanging around our cottage that the EU laws won't let us exterminate.

Oh, chill out. He never made light of the actual incident, which is clearly tragic. It so happened that there was lots of light-hearted banter going on in all mtbr threads yesterday (a symptom of less riding, due to icky weather, perhaps?). RKay and I both like osokolo, and he was just pushing our buttons with the cougar talk (which all started because of Sean). I understand that in-jokes can get misinterpreted.

Yes, very sad...she had just graduated from the Etobicoke School of the Arts last May...she was in my niece's class and were close friends.

Also, the 13 year old that died of the swine flu a few days earlier graduated grade 8 last spring with her brother, my nephew.

Both kids lost friends this week...not a good time.

...and I saw this on my ride this morning...

makes me step back and reflect on all the good and bad things that are happening to me daily, and reiterate the fact that our lives are too short and should not be spent living under the rock and being miserable and unkind...
