Siren Song 29 SL

Just got my Siren Song 29 SL put together so I took it out for a ride today at Solavaca Ranch in Glen Rose, TX.

I don't have enough mileage on it to pass judgment on it as I adapt to it and get it dialed but my first impressions are this... This thing rolls like a race bike, and it SERIOUSLY motors up absolutely anything with more traction and speed than I deserve. It's soooo smooth... no chatter...no harshness... just fast and super comfortable. I want to say 'plush' but it's not cushy like that... it's more like what a hardtail should be. The sizing feels dead-on.

Here's the spec:
Frame: Siren Song 29 SL
Fork: Fox F29 RLC
Wheels: NoTubes 355 29er rims, Hope Pro II disc hubs for 9mm/10mm thru-bolt, DT double butted spokes
Tires: Geax Saguaro 2.2
Brakes: Formula Oro Puro, 180/160 Hope floating rotors
Crankset: White Industries ENO w/VBC rings 24/38T, White Industries Ti bottom bracket & Ti bolts
Front Derailleur: Shimano XTR
Rear Derailleur: SRAM X0 medium cage
Shifters: SRAM X0 grip shift
Cassette: Shimano XT M770 11-34
Bars: Groovy Cycleworks Luv Handles
Stem: Race Face Deux XC
Seatpost: Easton EC90 CNT
Pedals: Time ATAC XS
Saddle: Serfas Stinger Ti
Headset: Chris King (Pink)
Skewers: DT Swiss RWS 9/10mm thru-bolt
Odds & Ends: SRAM PC-991 chain, Alligator full-length coated cables and braided housing, Arundel plastic bottle cages, ESI foamies, Ahrens bottle opener, bell

Very nice! This must be the one Brendan had pics of the frame only a few days back? Titanium stays as I recall.

Good looking rig and I hope you enjoy it for years to come.

GT- yep, that's mine.

It's similar to the team ones except mine has the white powdercoated rear instead of anodized and the team bikes don't have the pointy lugs : )

Were you able to stay in the saddle more with the soft tail?

Don't see many softtails these days. Dunno why.

I've always been curious about soft tails but never could get over the looks of em...This one looks pretty good though, and fast.

What do you think of theVBC stuff?

The size is around a medium. It's about the same length as my medium Turner Flux, but the frame is much lighter. I don't have a full build weight yet, but the latest in bathroom scale technology says 26.2. It's not set up to race xc right now, though. This is configured for endurance racing and bikepacking. There's all sorts of heavy parts on it. I could go on the parts bin and have it sub-24, less with singlespeed. That's lighter than the Flux and has many other advantages over it.

Is it a sit-and-spin bike or does it encourage you to stand and mash? YES. It literally doesn't much care how you put down power, it'll just make it stick and off ya go.

The VBC seems to shift well enough. Gearing-wise, I need to put in more seat time to pass judgement on that.

Bike looks good. I like pointed lugs and how the rear end is painted white.

The rearend of the frame really looks like the original Titus Racer X

Some custom bikepacking goodies from Epic Designs...

Medium gastank bag and small panel-opening frame pack. I love the small frame pack! it's SO awesome! Inside it has elastic bandoleers for CO2's and a multitool and it's got room for some other small bits as well.

Partial panel-opening full frame pack for longer trips.

Bag bag with all my sleeping and shelter stuff loaded

Very Nice bike and color

I've been looking seriously at the Siren lately. I'm selling a Motolite and have been riding a Haro Mary, which I love for everything but rocky descents. I'm hooked on 29ers and can't decide between a 3' travel full sus or the softtail. I like the simpler design of th softtail.

How does it compare to your flux on descents? and how long does it take to have one made?

That is one gorgeous bike...

Thanks

Put in over 112 miles on it yesterday. Perfect tool for the job... hella fast and efficient and you can really whip it through the trees. The rear travel kept me nice and fresh and I sprinted most of the last lap and finished first by a long shot. Zero bike issues.

The tires worked really well, actually. Conditions were NTX clay hardpack and it was still soggy and slick in the morning. I ran more pressure in the morning and it was controllable through the greasy bits. Took a few pounds out as it dried up and I could really rail it.
No conclusion yet on how they handle loose-over-hardpack, but I have a Rampage sitting around as a contingency.

Hey-o, welcome to the club! I'm on literally hundreds of miles on my Team SL, including just completing the Shenandoah Mountain 100 last weekend. This version is a bit more refined than the one I'm riding, but even the generation that went to the team earlier in the year is an awesome ride. I'd agree that it's more hardtail than full-sus, in that you need to pick your lines, but when the going gets tough the Song pulls through: 2 hrs, 3 hrs, 24 hrs!
