AUBURN, Calif. -- About 30 acres have burned in the Auburn State Recreation area, fire officials say.
The fire, reported near Mammoth Bar, is growing.
Cal Fire said crews have been sent to the area.

Hard to tell...

I was at the fairgrounds picking up my daughter from day care, could see the smoke, definitely looks to be in the middle fork, not sure if it's above or below old foresthill road. Rather than be the typical looky lue I didn't attempt to drive toward 49 to check out the exact location.

I wouldn't say huge yet, but unfortunately potentional is there....Old Town Fire house was emptying out as I passed by on the way home.

Edit: Journal link: http://auburnjournal.com/detail/119448.html

75 acres and it does appear to be between old foresthill road and confluence.

Looks like it's to the FHDT

They just showed pics of the gun range by Grizzly Bear house, they lit backfires to keep it from moving to the houses east of there. Hope they save the Divide Trail.....from the looks of it though much of the trails/climbs in Mammoth Bar are torched.

This is probably just the beginning of a bad fire season. Haven't we had Auburn fires 3 years in a row now? This sucks :|

YubaNet.com

From Nevada City there is a long, thick plume stretching over, all the way to the Buttes.

It looks to be mostly out at this point. They had the road closed at the bridge so we had to be escorted down the road to about Grizzly Bear House on the FDLT.
It burned right to the trail and it's hard telling what the dozers did, but my guess is they were in there cutting some decent sized breaks.
I couldn't tell if they rolled right up the trail from the trailhead or not but they had all the heavy equipment trailers at the trailhead. I don't think any of the FDLT is affected from the fire, fire suppression maybe.

Most of the fire appeared to be below the Eastside trail and up through Mammoth Bar to Foresthill Rd.

Good job to the fire crews as it looks like they got that thing knocked down pretty fast. It's going to be another rough fire season here in NorCal. Three straight dry winters means lots of fuel. I hope this fire didn't damage the trails too bad for you Auburn folks. Sounds like it could have been much worse.

Three cheers for the fire crews!

That being said, I was planning on riding the Clementine loop tomorrow morning; if anybody finds out about the access situation today, please post here so I can make other plans if need be.

always interesting to see flames from my living room window. Good thing there wasn't much wind yesterday afternoon and evening, and huge thanks to the fire crews pushing this one down. I anxiously await eyewitness reports from the trail conditions when things open back up, and will provide whatever I gather as well.
