To the generous guys w/ the Margaritas up there –
The Los Gatos Turkey ride is annual tradition that has been going on for over 10 years. On Thanksgiving morning, cyclists go up the mountain from downtown Los Gatos. The mountain is steep at 2200 feet but the spirit and camaraderie is awesome. This year, mtbr and friends went big with several turkeys, roast pig, keg, and furniture.
----------------------------
Thank you!
Could not have been a nicer day!
What a great bunch of folks appeared on top of Kennedy this morning!
Wishing all of you, a great TG and holiday season!

Photos and Videos
I've setup a flickr group if anyone wants to see my photos of this event and add their own. I'm also uploading a video to youtube as we speak and will link it here when its up. This was my first time on this ride and it was amazing. I'll be sure to bring up some goodies to share next year and thank you to all who brought food to share.
enjoy!

Hello, I am a puppy.
Should there be any technical sections ahead, please have the courtesy to wake me up and let me know, as I have a full tummy and need to take these things into consideration.
More here, and thank you for the good times and the positive feedback on the cheesecake. It was my pleasure to share.

Damn, that was fun. Great weather (even if it was 42 when we started riding), great people, fun downhill (we did Overgrown I believe). It was my second Turkey ride and certainly not my last. Happy TG to everyone.

I uploaded all my vid footage, let it letterbox (reformat for 16:9), and then my hard drive promptly crashed.
It's about 1/3 loaded as of try #2. If it all goes well, expect a vid by tonight.

That is so cool! That's an overpowering crowd.
I had to choose between the ride up Repack on Mt. Tam, or...
Drilling a water well on the property I just bought. Which is situated near the best riding I've ever known. Yeehaw!

Very fun time had by all!
We got a bit of a late start and then a couple of stops to say hi to folks had my friend Diane and I getting up to the top after 17 year old Patrick and 14 year old Garrett.
Nice of Kenny Cleveland to tell Patrick that Garrett was gaining on him. It lit the fire!
Kyle recognized me first...again!
So did Dan Caputo (we used to use the same trainer in the gym).
This could be the one day a year I can run into Jeff Kring.
Barely saw Frank as he started running back downhill right as I was trying to get some oxygen after the last climb...had me speechless (a rare sight).
Mere Mortals were well represented and of course the MTBR crowd. If that goofy guy tells me his real name, I'll try not to call you that next year!
Thanks Francis for the firefox hint. It is working much, much better.

I'd like to know how to get the pictures directly into the posting without having to upload them to a photo site or link...anyone?
I'll be looking to ride this weekend once I replace my watter heater. It exploded after we got back home!

To post a photo, there's an 'upload images' button below when posting a reply. Click that, select the image from your hard drive, click 'upload', close the window and you're done.
For everyone else, the firefox hint is... mtbr works much, much faster when using the firefox browser. http://firefox.com.

You have to hit the red 'post reply' button. You can't do quick reply. Or you can click this URL. http://forums.mtbr.com/newreply.php?...te=1&p=3787471
You need to click on the 'Upload Images' button. It lets you upload 5 photos at a time. The photos have to be under 400k in size.

Pss...hey Francis
It appears this thread is split into two. When I click on the post by bayareamtbbiker at the very top, it cuts off all the posts (on hybrid/linear view) starting from rensho's and below.
Any chance you can merge the two parts together so I can see all the photos in one thread?
Thanks,
K-Zero

What a fun morning. That was my first time climbing Kennedy and that last wall put me over the limit. Took awhile to get my lungs back in my chest, but made the feast later a bit less guilt-laden. Thanks for the organization guys and for all those who pulled the trailers up the hill.

P.S. Healing vibes out to the guy who crashed near the bottom of Overgrown and had the "prominent" bump by his shoulder.

- this guy who brought the tables (see below)
- the filipino crew (see below)
- and another dude wearing an mtbr jersey (pic coming soon)

Not to be forgotten....
That was a blast, my first Turkey Day @ Kennedy. And what struck me beyond the fun and frolic amongst the attendant masses of mountain bikers, was how kind, fun, enthusiastic and helpful the Mid-Peninsula Open Space Rangers were. They rangers [I apologize for not remembering your names] VOLUNTEERED to pack all our trash out from the top of the hill for us. I don't think that should go unnoticed or acknowledged: Thank You MRSOD for adding to the fun! You're presence added to the event, and was appreciated. I can't believe I wrote this, and I'm sincere. Francois, that has to be your greatest diplomatic achievement EVER!

So who took the photo of all of us in front of summit bike?
I remember it was a gentleman with black leather standing on a gray Toyota p/u.
Share the goods bro!

Thanks!
What an amazing turnout! Thanks to everyone who toted goods and libations to the top and to those who documented the event with pix and vids. Another trailer hero to be thanked is Bob MacIntyre, the grandaddy of the Turkey Day ride. He hauled a 35lb. turkey on an old dual slalom Sycip bike with a 28(front) 30(rear) granny gear...and mind you, Bob is a big boy!
I don't have a pic of him, but I did see a great pic of him in someone's slide show. He was the big dude with the Summit cycles jersey mowing on a turkey leg.
And of course, thanks also goes out to the beer fairies. The first few people to arrive at the top in the morning were greeted to six chilled cases laying on the ground!

Single speeding to the top!
Yeah many people said to me,"Man, you riding a single speed to the top?" The next question was one they kept to themselves which would sound something like this: "Are you some kind of idiot?" The answer quite frankly is yes. Yes I am. But what many people don't know is that I carried all the way up to the top with me. It was a 2.5 pound cornish game hen! Yes folks it's true. I think 2 or 3 of us had a bite sized serving. I do not want to be looked upon as a hero but, I made the sacrafice. But seriously, thanks to all the people who took stuff up to the top and shared. You make us Mt. bikers look good. Thanks

Yes, that was an awesome display of force. Smiling force! They rode up with us, hung out and shared in the spirit. I am thankful for those guys.

I'm not that guy but I did take a few pictures of the group in front of
Summit Bicycles. I didn't post them because the lighting was really
bad; the crowd was in the shade with a bright sky behind them so the
people were way underexposed. But since you asked, I cropped one
and lightened things up. The thumbnail looks bad but click it anyway,
the full image is better (still not great).

Sorry I missed you on the list, although I was tailgaiting you for the last part of the ride...
I think there were at least 10 trailers if not more
Nice pic btw.
There were at least half a dozen photographers at the top of the grunt before the false summit... share the pics!!

Since my camera man arrived after me, we staged this shot as we were leaving around 12:30 PM. This time I cleaned it as I got the "A" line.

Whoo-hoo!
Just a quick thanks, I had a blast free-loading off of the turkey, stuffing, roast pig, beer, wine and assorted desserts. Francis, the Lumpia was most excellent!
Good news for me! After 4 years of participation (er... free-loading), and 4 years of the wife looking at the after-photos, I got the thumbs up for a tandem purchase!!! Unfortunately (you might think) with a **severe** price restriction, but that shall not deter me. I've got 12 months to whip the bike (and my wife) into fine, Kennedy climbing shape.
No pictures to share this year, but I do have a 3D GPS track log. Click on the link to open the KML file in Google Earth (you must have Google Earth installed on your computer).

So, here's the deal. I was bombing down dogmeat with the keg trailer in tow. While I was bombing, I lost the tap to the keg from the trailer. One minute it was there, the next minute, it was gone. It was in a brown trader joe's paper grocery bag. So if you found it, saw it, know the person that's using it for keg stands, etc... shoot me a pm. I'd like to get it back and avoid the deposit fee.
Thanks,
the keg hauler

Better late than never!
I cannot believe how big the turnout was this year! Incredible. What a great group of friends and riders we all have. I talked my best friend Steve into doing this ride, much to his own apprehension. I'm glad he made it though, so he could see the freakshow for himself!
Thanks to everyone who brought food and drink, because I think I sampled everything! J, your cheesecake was mighty tasty. Probably the best I've had. And that pig! Mouth-watering goodness. I do need to know what that gravy/glaze was all about. It was too good to remain a mystery. Thanks to the Silicon Valley Trail Riders for hauling that fattie up!
To the guy who led a 15 minute singalong of Bye Bye Miss American Pie, you rule. We need a band up there next year. I can be your drummer! Summit Bikes was gracious enough to caffeinate and feed everyone in the morning, that hit the spot.
Foggy Goggles, nice to finally meet you and thanks for tending the bar! I loves me a good Manhattan on the rocks.
Kathleen, hope you can get the bike club off the ground. I'm sure you can find help here.
Next year, Richelle and Mackenzie will be there! Yay!
