velvet r vs. recon 351 u-turn
Any thoughts or opinions on these shocks. The Velvet r sounds like a good fork, albeit w/o all the options that the Recon has.

I was snooping through your threads to see if I could prove that I knew something, so here goes:
I have a Recon 351 U Turn. I love it. I don't really like the adjustability of the mo-co, but it is suppsed to work like mine does, so I can't really improve it. And the stock RS dust seals absolutely suck. I put the fork on my bike, rode around for 15 minutes and lost all travel. The fork was stuck at 135mm and I couldn't compress it AT ALL. Then I went home and took my front wheel off (put the bike upside down) and the grab the stanchion which is covered in fork oil. The dust seal literally was 5cm up the stanchion, and I didn't even touch it. I was obviously pissed, but I took the fork to my LBS and had them send it out to RS to replace the seals and Mo-Co unit (I thought the mo-co unit was the whole problem, but I guess it wasn't...). After 6 weeks of waiting, the LBS finally calls to tell me the fork is ready to be picked up. I figured it would be good as new (hopefully better, because it didn't work too well when new..). Boy was I wrong. The seals hadn't been changed and the fork still sucked when I got it back. No travel. RS warranty service sucks. Then I take the fork to my other LBS to have them do the work in shop. They replaced seals and some other part (I dont know what its called and can't find it onlione) with new Enduros and also changed oil and put in a new U-Turn unit. Finally, after 9 months of riding with a Dart, IT WORKS! I have about 1100 miles on it, and no problems once I got everything replaced. I think I just got unlucky, because I've heard no other complaints about it. The amount of adjustability is great. I love the fork. It's really light for a coil fork, and most importantly, it looks insaaane (JK about it being the most important part...). I know this probably won't help you at all because this thread is ancient, but just wanted to share.....
