tri flow teflon spray, bad for seals? fox dhxA
My riding bud lubed his shock with a squirt of tri flow, and we went riding.
20 minutes in his shock went poof. No air in either side. so as he pumped his arm off, I rotated the main shock body were I heard the leak, ( large chamber, at the back, by the rebound (Red) knob). the leak slowed. then he pumped the small chamber to almost 200 psi. and the main up to 160psi, and it held for another 20 min. and started to lose air again.
Time to send it to Fox, or Push,
Or a cleaning and grease the dust seal, and try again.
What do you think?
Thank you all!

Pump it up and dunk under water to see where the leak is. Unless it's from the rebound knob or piggy back, it's an easy fix. Typically a seal change or tightening the schrader valve/core will do the trick. I don't think TriFlow had anything to do with it. Although I don't think it hurt anything, I don't think it's necessary. Lube needs to be on the inside of the can to be effective.

thats right living legend

The only thing I could see the triflow doing that could hurt the shock would be to attract dirt in there which could I suppose happen bad enough to cause the seals to leak, but not in 20 minutes?
I say pick up a valve tool at a car parts store, and see if the valve core needs to be tightened or order a new seal kit.

If it's the seals, order a new seal kit from Push for under $10. You can't even begin to imagine how ridiculously easy the seals are to change on a Fox Shock. It's literally a 10 minute fix.

Marzocchi recommends Teflon on stanchions. You spray a fair amount then work the fork to get it under the seals and then clean it off thoroughly. If you have it thick enough to attract dirt, you have too much. I highly doubt it affects the seals.
Oh sh!+ just force upgraded to cat1. Now what?

used it many times
I've carried the marzocchi recommended tri-flow use over to my fox shocks and forks. Must have put tri-flow on both a TALAS and DHX-A 50+ times by now and never had an issue.

so you guys spray it on the stanchions and cycle the fork a few times then wipe it off?
Does it really make that big of a difference?

Exactly, thats pretty much it.
"Does it really make that big of a difference?"
No, probably not that much. But it doesn't hurt, and it picks up a bit of the grime from the lip of the wipers.

It does keep the....
wipers lubed and leaves a thin film of lube on the stanchions. It does help. BUT, you don't need to SPRAY anything!!!! Spray cans are a total waste! It's simpler, cleaner, and much more economical to purchase the small squeeze bottle with the little straw that goes in the end. All you need is a couple of drops applied where the stanchions enter the wiper. Let it sit for a few seconds, then cycle the fork as deeply into it's travel as you can by hand a few times. Wipe off any excess and you're good to go. I've got a little 2.0 oz bottle of Triflow that I bought 2 years ago for this purpose. I'll finally have to buy another by the end of the season! After all, you only really need to do this about every half dozen rides or so, or after a really dirty or muddy ride. So that little bottle should last you a good long time.

MMMmmmm, Triflow .... I love the smell of synthetic banana in the morning Dunno why, but I love the smell of that stuff .... Used it since way back in my '70's roadie days, and the smell is very "comforting," in some strange way...LOL

very good smelling. I think you can tell a cyclist cause hell be huffing tri-flow.
tri-flow shouldn't hurt the seals if anything it will help. Also there is a special stanchion lube made by finish line that is a little costly for how much you get but a little goes long ways plus it doesn't really attract dirt.

Huffing Triflow?
I like to follow up my bike lube with a nice steaming bag of microwave popcorn......
