Skareb versus MX Comp - Weight?
I'm looking at replacing my wife's fork - she currently has a Manitou SX and doesn't want to add any weight to it (3.5 lbs). So, I'm looking at the Manitou Skareb Super ('04 or '05) versus a Marzocchi MX Comp ('06). Manitou lists the Skareb as 3.4-3.5 lbs, while Marzocchi lists the fork (minus steer tube) as 1610 g plus 380 g for the steer tube.
Does the skareb weight include the steer tube? If not, then both shocks are about the same weight. Otherwise, the skareb is almost a lb lighter.
I used to ride a Skareb Super, now on an MX.. Yes, the Marzocchi is about a pound heavier, but steers much better. For me, a worthwhile tradeoff, but if your wife is a lightweight, you might be better off with another Skareb.
Thanks. I was hoping they would be closer in weigh, but good to know the facts.
Marzocchi is basically the only company that tries leaving off a steerer tube (kinda a needed item) from fork weights, to try and sound competitive to Manitou, Fox, Rockshox, Suntour, Spinner, etc. IE, everyone else. And this is funnier still since Marzocchi steerer tubes are press-fit. Its not like its possible to even buy the fork without the steerer.
I don't post to generate business for myself or make like I'm better than sliced bread
Yeah, I think its bs as well.
Yeah, that's some BS. Get the Skareb. I love my '05 Super 100mm. I am very light though. If you are heavier, you might have a little trouble with it being flexy.

My girlfriend is using the lowest skareb and she like it, she had a suntour and rst fork before. She is 130 pounds.
Thanks for the feedback. She's on the light side so I think the skareb would be a better fit. Anyone have any problems with the handlbar lockout on the '05? There were a few bad reviews on the products page but the fork still gets good overall marks.
I have heard bad things about the HB lockout. Mine is on the fork, and I love it.
