    Shock compatibilty?

So I am BRAND NEW to this and want to learn more. Are all shocks compatible with each frame?

I know that some differ with the axle size but other than that do they all fit together?

(the specific fork and frame I'm asking about are FOX RACING SHOX :: BIKE : FORKS : 32 F-SERIES FIT RLC
    and
    2006 Trek 6500 - BikePedia

Thanks for your help and patience with me

No, all shocks are not compatible with all frames. First, you want to look at the travel length. Usually, a frame is designed for a specific length, and you want to stick to that, otherwise, you could break the frame.

Next, the steerer tube can have different diameters (the tube that goes through the frame). I think there are 3 popular sizes, 1.125 inch, 1.5 inch, and tapered sterrers, that start with 1.5 at the base, and end with 1.125 where the stem attaches.

Otherwise, yeah, the axle type is also important, you want a wheel that matches the fork.

thanks for the great response! Does the fork have an impact on the brake too?

Oh, yes, forgot about that. You will have to make sure that that's compatible. I don't know that much about this though, so maybe somebody else can chime in.

Yes, if you currently have v-brakes and want to keep using them then you'd better check to see if that Fox fork you linked has v-brake mounts on it.

Your current fork would have a 1 1/8" steering tube.
If you buy a second hand fork you need to make sure that the steering tube is long enough.
