    Scratch on Stanchion

I have a minor scratch high on my stanchion above the amount of travel I'd use in most situations. However, to reduce the chances of ruining my seals I'd like to buff these out. I'm told fine sandpaper will do but would also like to hear some other views.

How minor is the scratch, can you see it in a photo? What about running your fingernail over it, does it catch? If it's fairly deep, many folks have used some clear nail polish to fill it in.

Ahhh, I never thought of nail polish. I have several deep(ish) scratches on mine also from a wreck. I filed mine down with a needle file and everything seems fine so far.

Even if the scratch is minor it is worth putting the nail polish on to help stop dirt and crap from getting under the seals.

All you need is some clearn nail polish and a super fine sand paper. First sand the scratch to get rid of any raised lips or burs. Next apply a thin coat of nail polish and let it dry. Then sand it down so it is only in the scratch, repeat until you can run you nail along with out feeling any part of the scratch.

It is amazing how well it works.
