RS Monarch HV outer air sleeve removal

Okay, noob question. How do I remove the outer air sleeve to put some rubber bands on a Monarch Plus shock? Im sure its not difficult but on SRAMs website they make it look really hard like almost taking the whole thing apart.
    Please someone help

Take shock off bike. Slide the O-ring that holds the outer sleeve down. It's just below the sleeve, it kind of blends in. It can be tricky to get something underneath it to get it off. Then slide outer sleeve down and off. That's it.

Yup, like Scot says, its easy.

One word on experience with the bands, I have a Monarch Plus and have only been able to fit 3 bands max, anymore and the can has been impossible to get back on, and thats with shock oil or light grease. Someone else has noted before they had no issues.

Yesterday I decided to use two rows of electrical tape instead of the 3 bands because they weren't taking up enough volume...dh shuttling last night, perfect.

To get the retention o-ring off I grab it with a paper towel and pinch my fingers inward, which I find is a lot easier than trying to pry it out.

You could probably do it on the bike too if you cut the volume spacers in one spot.

I don't even take the shock off the bike. As long as you can get either top or bottom shock bolt out then you can feed the spacers on. Top is a tight squeeze but can be done. What I do is ride with some spacers sitting on the shock body. Then drop the hv sleeve and feed a few on on drop some off to fine tune the ride. When you've got it right then remove the unwanted spacers from the shock body after the ride.
