Rock Shox Monarch 3.1 Rebound Knob

Hi Guys.

I just purchased a used RS Monarch 3.1 from ebay and can't get the rebound knob to move more than a few millimeters. I am in the process of trying to return the shock to the seller but would like to see if maybe I'm doing something wrong. Has this happened to anyone else or is this normal or just a bad shock?

I had a similar issue with a monarch 3.3, the rebound knob was very very hard to move (was 2nd hand and hadn't been used for a while). I found out the the dial was all stuffed up with dirt. Gave the shock a good clean, used a toothpick to get rid of any obvious dirt, then used a very small amount of WD40 (I know, bad stuff to use) and the knob freed right up.
