Replacing the spring on a Fox 40

I ordered a heavier spring for my Fox 40 and was curious if I need to apply grease or anything to the spring before I install it. I removed the old spring and and it had some thin looking oil on it. Just curious. Thanks.

the oil on it is splashed up from the lowers. I would just lightly coat the spring in fork oil before instal at least that is what i have done. IF you have Judy butter there is no problem putting a very thin layer on the outside of the spring.
