Rebuild or trash? 96 Rock Shox Judy SL (White Bros Judd equppied)
Hey all I am needing some fork guidance/suggestions.
Tuning up a bike for a buddy when I noticed his 1996 Rock Shox JUDY SL fork wasn't working.
It would completely compress and not return (No rebound and no compression)
I took it apart and all the elastomoers (?) and internals were rotten.
See the pic.
SO....how much would it cost to replace all the internals? OR should I just clean it up and sell the lowers/sanctions?
you can get the parts HERE
Personally, I would trash it. I had one of those years of Judy XC and in 2001 bought a bike with a Judy Race on it. The elastomer springs really take the joy out of the ride. My Judy Race is still very nice because the coil springs in it make it very plush and nice to ride. I would venture a guess that even an inexpensive fork (RS Dart) is going to ride better than the original style Judies.
I would look at the cost of the complete rebuild of the Judy vs a new Dart or something lower end if the guy is a on budget.... weigh the options and then decide.
