    Rear Shock Upgrade Question

I've got a 2011 Camber Comp Elite 29er FS with a RockShox RL rear shock size: 7.875x1.9 ( Specialized Bicycle Components )

I am unable to find a shock that has the same measurements? What am I looking for?

I would call Specialized and see if you can use a 7.875x2 which is more common or see what other options you have.

Regardless of what Spesh says, you can always get a 7.875x2.0 and add 0.1" (=2.5mm) of shims to the shaft inside the air can. That would limit the shock's stroke and allow you to bottom it out without the potential for damaging anything.

That said, you may loose some bottom-out resistance, since the stroke ends sooner than it otherwise would have and the spring rate would not have ramped up as much as it would have. This could be tuned by adding some plastic volume spacers inside the air can to get the feel you're looking for, or by adjusting the bottom out resistance pressure/volume if you get a piggyback shock.

I've done my research and it seems that it works (after all we are only talking 2.5mm.
(Upgrading Specialized Camber 29er Ario RL rear shock )
At the moment I have RockShox Airo RL and Im looking at a Fox FLOAT (see below)

Is this a worthy upgrade or am I just sidestepping?

Anyone wanting to know - it did fit after a little bit of light dremel work on the frame where a ridge on the shock was hitting.
