Putting 2010 internals into older Pike forks
Hi, I'm thinking about buying a set of Rockshox Team air U-Turn forks 2010 model and putting the Black Box motion control and air spring into my Pike Teams from 2007. reason being I need a strong set of forks and the Rev chassis I've heard isn't as burly as the Pikes. They're to go on a Banshee/Mythic Spitfire.
Is it doable? Anything I should know first? Should I remove the units from the uppers or just swap the uppers over? Finally will they be 140 or 150 travel?
Thanks
Daniel

I upgraded the damper on my fork to a damper on a completely different model and lost full lockout.
After some trouble shooting, I found that the damper oil had to be increased by about 30 ml. Then it worked perfectly.
Finding the proper damper volume involved an hour of trial and error. Having a graduated turkey injector to add and subtract exact amounts of oil helped.

I have 2009 Blackbox rebound on my 2007 Pike. So it's perfectly possible.
Also, the 2010 air side should be no problem.
The rebound side is 150mm, but you need the 140mm U-Turn as the chassis on the Pike is for 140mm only. I don't know if you can have any problems going to the 150mm internals, but I think the stanchions are not long enough and you may run into some bushing issues.
You just need to swap the cartridges. A complete disassembly is required, but it's no big deal on RS forks.

Thanks warp. There's another set of 140 U-Turns that have just come up and I'm waiting to see if they have BB in them to buy and then start my Frankenfork.
Will I be worth it in the end? Will I notice a difference between all Rev build and The Pikelation fork?

The Dual Flow (or Blackbox rebound damper, whatever the name it is now) rebound rod makes a subtle but positive difference. It rides better IMO and it doesn't spike like the standard. Others would disagree.

What about the chassis stiffness? Should I just leave the Rev complete and use that? I'm building it as a do everything bike, the weight saving would be good for trail days and epics but would it be strong enough to take to a bike park? I'm still learning jumping so may case the occasional lip or misjudge a transition.

I think the Revelation is as stiff on the trail, while being much lighter. Also, take this from a guy who weighs in 10st.
But... The Pike simply has more mass. Most of times, that makes for better fatigue life. If you're concerned about casing jumps, I'd stick with the Pike.
Just think about it... the Pike chassis is still used as the Argyle. The crown is considerably stouter and heavier. The lowers I'd give the nod to the Rev.
For pure endurance, I'd go Pike. The Revelation is more of a trail fork. The Pike is a bomber.

Another option is to have the Pike PUSHED which gives better performance than BB if you ask me. I have one on my Spitty and love it tho I would like to try a new Rev since it is a full pound lighter and has more travel - both of which I could use.
Have FUN!
