New to Forum, Advice on Fork

Hey all! This is my first post. I had to break down and join after ascertaining far too much knowledge from lurking.

Anywho, I have a Manitou R7 Super air fork that I just bought from a bike mechanic. He told me it had a few nicks on the left stanchion, which I was aware of, but both seals leak as well.

I'm at a loss for what to do with this thing. It performs great, is super light, and completely straight. On the downside, it would cost a pretty penny to replace the stanchions and do new seals. Plus, I don't think they even make parts for this model anymore.

    What would you do?

    Thanks!

Looks like you might have a 2006 R7 Super.

How bad do the seals leak?
Is the oil actually leaking out or is there just a residue of oil that's being left on the stanchions.

Seals are available from plenty of shops and don't cost too much: http://www.bikeman.com/FK5540.html

Thanks for replying! There's residue being left, only when I ride. The scratches aren't too deep--more like surface scratches. Maybe I should replace seals first?

Wipe the oil off, go for a ride, then take a couple of photos to show how much oil is on them.

The right leg looks fine to me.
The left leg looks like it does have a bit more oil on it but it's hard to tell how much more from that photo, maybe all those scratches are the problem.
Is there any burs or sharp edges on those scratches?
If there is or was any burrs or sharp edges on those scratches they could of damaged the seal.
