    Mobil 1 5w-30 ...correct?

    Just to confirm ...
    This is what I want for Fox forks, right?

    Only for lubricating lowers, not for the damper.

    Or another brand synthetic 5w30 will work fine too.

    I've been using it for the last 5-6 years in the lowers and it's kept my 06 Nixon rockin!

    Ok for RS as well?

    I assume that is Ok for a RS Reba as well (lowers of course).

    I have just been using the lightweight upper stuff up to now without any noticeable issues. My local bike shop does not carry the heavier lowers oil.

    Other question is must you use synthetic?

    Yes it works on Rock Shox forks.

    The reason for using Synthetic comes down to basic knowledge of motor oils. If you want all the details visit Bob Is The Oil Guy website. It basically comes down to the fact that Synthetic oil is going to provide better lubrication (especially at the much lower temperatures in bicycle forks) which means longer life for your fork bushings, considering the price difference is only a few $$ between conventional and synthetic motor oil it's a bargain.

    May I also suggest #2 way oil?

    Better clinging oil than Fox's red and green oil ?

    5w-20 works too. the viscosity is slightly lower than the 5w-30. 49 at 40C vs 61 at 40c. 49 typically corresponds to 10 to 15wt fork oil. 61 is 15 to 20wt. I'm not sure how the bath oil viscosity will change characteristics though, but it might have a little affect.

    Well then your not up on all the properties of synthetic oil...because they also flow better at low temperatures (a lot of riders don't ride at 40 degrees C), have a higher film strength, and cling to parts better than conventional oil. All of which is very much applicable in bicycle suspension fork lubricating.

    It's not rocket science - just SPLASH oil! Any quality syn motor oil works great. I use Castrol Syntcec 5W-40 and the guys at Enduro Seal are using Amsoil 5W-40 syn.

    For splash bath oil, multigrade is handy cause you can also use it in your motorcycle.

    Synthetic doesn't absorb the water in the air as quickly, turning the oil into sludge.

    What's important is to change it often. It evaporates pretty quickly with good use.

    I've used 5w-20 (cheap stuff) in the lowers and the damper. It works perfectly.
    I've used Motorcycle 7wt in the lowers and the damper. It works perfectly.
    I then tried Power Steering fluid (cheap stuff) in the lowers and damper. It works perfectly.
    I use 75wt gear oil in the air chambers, which is basically Fox fluid.

    No matter what fluid I use, I can't tell if one is better or different than another.
    I could probably use cooking oil.
    It is more important to have clean oil.

    Yes, if your fork runs at 200f at a few thousand cycles per minute for hours on end, you MAY benefit from synthetic after 100,000 miles or so.

    Hey PVD.

    I was researching the use of Motor oil for lubrication purposes only, not for damping. I use Maxima RFF in all forks and Maxima RSF in shocks. I feel Maxima has great quality, performance and a good price.

    Btw, got a response from Mobil:

    Dear Mr. Tacubaya

    Mobil 1 does not contain seal swellers, but some Mobil 1 high mileage probably contain seal conditioners.
