Marzocchi EXR Pro Air harsh topout on rebound

I just picked up a 2005 Marzocchi EXR Pro 120 for basically nothing. It has air on both sides and no adjustments whatsoever. The fork has decent compression dampening, but on the rebound it springs back up a little faster than I lke and has a really hard topout.

I took the fork apart and there is nothing too it. Is there supposed to be some sort of spring or rubber bushing at the end of the dampening rod to prevent this nasty clunk on the rebound? I already tried a heavier oil which slowed the rebound down but it didn't fix the nasty top out.

Is this fork just a piece of junk or is there something wrong with it? Anything I can do to get rid of the clunking top out?
