how to determine rear shock size

Relatively new to the hobby have been riding for about six months but I am not very knowledgeable on bike mechanics yet.

I am considering replacing my rear Rock shock bar 2.1, with a fox float rp23, how do I determine what size of shock I need. It needs to be installed on a 2009 GT Force 3.0

easiest way is to check the manufacturer and check the specs.

if you feel inclined to measure yourself.

measure distance between the middle of the eyelets. thats your shock length.
measure the piston length, the distance the shock moves. thats your shock stroke.

    Pretty simple...

go to the GT website and look up the specs on the bike, .

First thing listed is the frame spec. The 09 3.0 came speced with a Bar 2.1 at 7.5 X 2.0. That's your eye to eye length and your stroke.

FYI the mounting reducers on your Bar won't fit on a RP23. So you'll need to buy those also. For that you need to know the bolt size, and the width of the mounts.

    This page explains it:
