    FOX RP23 on a 2011 Spark 50 advice

Posted this in the Scott forum but think this might be a better place

I have a 2011 Spark 50 and have been having issues with the rear lockout. I ride in South Fla wich is mostly XC so I have almost no use for the lock out system anyways. I want to replace the stock DT Swiss shock to an RP23. I know it can be done but I wanted to make sure I am getting the right size and proper hardware (if any) to make this happen and wanted some advice on this.

    Thanks guys

Just measure your existing shock. The two critical measurements are the eye-to-eye distance (make sure the shock is not compressed when you measure this) and the amount of travel/stroke - ie. how much the shock can compress. The DT swiss shock probably has a model number on it that you can look up on the DT swiss site to double check your eye-to-eye and stroke measurements.

One other thing to check is that there is sufficient clearance for an RP23. It's probably the same outer dimensions as the DT swiss but have a look at your frame and see if there are any clearance issues just in case.

You may also need new mounting hardware for the RP23. Some (all?) of the DT swiss shocks use spherical bearings instead of the bushes that an RP23 uses.

Thanks for the reply... From what I understand I will need M6x22.2mm mounting hardware in order to make it work. One last question, do you guys think it's worth it to spend the extra cash on the 2012 model with the Cashima Coat? It's about the double the price of the 2011 model.

    Upgrade or not

So I was all gun ho on this RP23 swap and started reading a little about the RP23. It appears that people on this site have given it some pretty bad reviews. I am sure I should take it with a grain of salt, but several people have said the same things on here. It's now left me with second thoughts about it. Now I don't know if I should still do the RP23, or the Monarch RT3, or maybe just stick with the M210 and keep the lock out...

    Any thoughts?
