Converting a 1 1/8" steerer tube to fit a 1" headtube?
I have a 2002 Atom Race 100 mm, 1 1/8" steerer tube Marzocchi fork that is press fitted. I need help converting it so it will fit into my current Z2 80mm with an adjustable crown and steerer tube for a 1" headtube?
I was thinking about somehow cut the press fitted crown and just use the Z2 crown and bolted back on?
Has anyone done it? Is it worth the hassle? Please help...
thanks,

I've done it with a similar era fork & older Z2 crown.
Before you carefully cut off the crown, make sure the Z2 crown is the same measurements to the stanchion width on the atom. I used a dremel w/ reinforced cut off wheel to carefully cut the crown almost all the way thru to the stanchion. I then used a large bladed screwdriver to "pry" apart the crown to break it at each leg, so I didn't cut into the stanchion.
If you do a google search, you might turn up a thread that had a pictorial (I could be mis-remembering, there was for sure a pictorial doing it with a SID & Judy frankenfork). But, there was at least a couple of threads on it.
Alternatively, marzocchi used to have a program to replace the steerer tube in the existing crown, which could be done only once in a crown/steerer assembly's lifetime. They may still that. The cost was ~$75, circa 2005.
