96 Judy XC & 96 Judy SL Lowers

I have a Judy XC that is 1 1/8 steer, and a Judy SL 1" steer. The SL is blown, can I swap the XC lowers over?

Yes, the lowers are the same (other than color...even then there were some yellow XC's in '96)

But swapping the lowers isn't going to fix a blown damper

The XC works fine, I just need the 1" steer.

You can swap the Crown...just unbolt it from the stanchion tubes (1996 was still bolt on)

Just so you know, you can also cut a SID from it's crown and it will slide right into your pinch bolt Judy crown.

And what appears to be Scott-Peterson (Suntour) self energizing brakes?

Critical Racing. I have since replaced them with M900 XTR though.

Ah yes, I was fooled by the lack of green or purple anodizing ;-)

I've been contemplating the SID solution, but don't want to spend the $$ - the fork is on an older 1" bike that I want to get running for as cheap as possible. The Judy SL does not have the bolt on crown, so it may not be a 96

Arg....you just rattled my brain and knocked some cobwebs away

The 1996 SL did not have a bolt on crown as a weight savings...I remember now

I do believe however that you could gut your XC and put the parts into your SL with the 1" steerer

Yes. Gut away. And keep an eye on eBay for cartridges, they come up every now and then.
