    2014 Vivid

2014 Rockshox Vivid Rear Shocks Available only for Pro Riders | Mountain Bike Review

Well this shock looks cool, however I don't like their marketing strategy. It's not right to tell 97% of your customers that they are not too good for your products. There are even some weekend warriors who are better at riding than some who have a DH license. Too bad RS.

So, let's say you want one of these, do you have a license?

I've got a 2011 on my Knolly Chilcotin and it makes me feel like a Pro!

I can't see them sticking very long to this pro rider only thing!
Maybe it will make us "normal" riders lust for it more until we beg RS for it.

That's the same thing I'm thinking.

We still don't have any pro riders in the poll.

It's a joke, people. It's not available until 2014 so right now it's only for BlackBox (pro) riders.

    Let's all take a breath.

It may be a joke, but looking at the feedback on various sites, and RS facebook page, all they have done is alienate a lot of riders/consumers. Heck, even half of the "pro-level riders" they listed on their brilliant marketing post on facebook ride Fox/Marzocchi products anyway, so are not exactly likely to ever ride the Vivid anyways.
If they had of just come straight out and said that this year it would be Blackbox riders, and then 2014 it will be available to the general public, everyone would have been happy and likely would be looking forward to buying it. Instead, they just had some smarmy, sarcastic "you are not good enough for this shock" rubbish, which was never likely to go down well with the general public.

I didn't say it was a good idea, I'm just saying you can save your bile and disdain for roadies or suv drivers or liberals or whoever we are hating these days...

I don't hate any of the things you listed (too much hate in the world as it is), but I know dumb marketing when I see it, and that is very close to being a stellar example of how no to do it.
The shock itself, especially the Vivid Air, looks to be an absolutely amazingly engineered solution to a problem that has always been an issue with air shocks, so I give RS the kudos they deserve for that, just not the way went about announcing it.

If they're serious, then it wouldn't be the first time a company has done this. Heck, companies give stuff to their riders that the public can't buy all the time, as mentioned above. They also gave up on their Dual Air forks because they wanted to simplify their products for the average user, just like Fox got rid of their compression adjustments. People don't take the time to do proper maintenance or check for proper sag, so why would a company let somebody like that mess with more adjustments? I'm not saying it's right, and I wish my Rockshox RT3 had more adjustments on it, but this isn't going to affect my life in any way. It's not like any of us non-racers need it. I'm sure they will continue to sell Vivids.

We'll all be able to buy them in about 7 months. New model year stuff starts to hit in Aug/Sept so we'll all be able to get it then...

I don't think it is a joke. I saw the whole video. They seem serious. It looks like a great shock. Too bad rockshox won't let me touch it.

Why don't you explain it to the folks here, rather than not explain it, like you did? These inquiring folks want details, not just a proclamation from you, just Like RockShox made. Or are you omnipotent?
