2011 Fox Vanilla 36 170 R....covert to 160mm? Can it be done reliably?

I know its not supposed to be possible according to Fox, but hoping someone out there has tried it and succeeded. Originally I was gonna pick up a Nomad frame, which the 170mm Fork would have been fine for, but some things don't go according to plan. Now looking at a Butcher but 170 is more that what is designed for and voids warranty. Any suggestions, or should I just sell the thing and purchase a 160mm.

Haven't done it. However, you should be able to stack a 10mm washer above or below the top-out spring. A plastic washer would be lightest. If you can't find a washer at the size needed, cutting a slice of plastic pipe having the diameter of the negative spring could work well.

Stacking a washer with the negative spring will both lower the fork and reduce travel. Stacking washers below the bottomout bumpers will only reduce travel without lowering the overall fork's crown height.
