2001 SID XC vs. 2009 Reba SL

I've got a buddy who's willing to sell me his hardly used 2009 Rock Shox Reba SL for $175. I've got a 2001 SID XC on my hard tail Felt RXC right now and am wondering if I should pull the trigger. The SID is also in great shape, recently overhauled by QBP.

My goal is a light weight XC bike. I do an occasional race but most of my riding is with my buds on nice single track. No jumping, no drops of note, occasional rock garden, not even AM. Pretty much strictly fast XC riding, we're a pretty competitive group.

Any thoughts on whether the older SID or newer, but somewhat heavier with more travel (100mm vs. 80mm) Reba would be better?

Well I'd take the Reba in a heartbeat...MUCH stiffer (note: I weigh 225lbs) fork. Plus, better damper.

But, if your happy with the SID, I'm sure you could find other things to spend your money on.

Reba, no question. It may be heavier, but the extra stiffness and the better damper will make up for it.

If your goal is a light bike - stay with the SID
If your goal is to be able to ride the bike quicker - go the Reba
