2000 SID XC/100 - only using synthetic motor oil?

So I have read posts about using synthetic motor oil for the lowers and 5wt fork oil for the dampening. My total newbie question is this, the 2000 XC fork I am doing - per the manual - only calls for 15wt/redrum (which is 15wt) oil and it only goes in the bottom (and a little on the foam ring). It is air compressed, I believe, at the top SOOOOOOOOoooo, is it kosher to only use synthetic motor oil. I don't even know where I would put dampening fork oil.

    Thanks all

The SID is an open bath design. The damping oil is the lubricating oil. Using synthetic motor oil for the lowers is applicable with forks with closed dampers (the damping oil is contained in the upper legs) , as it works as a lubricating splash oil only. I would follow the rebuild instructions and used the applicable fork oil on the SID.
    Always learning!
