Upgrade XTR Shadow+ rear der to latest version?

Shimano Luvrs,

I made the switch from XO in October and my LBS hooked me up with a mostly XTR drivetrain. I love it, but when I went to upgrade my beloved Mojo HD to a Direct Mount hanger, it seems I've got the "older" version of the XTR rear der (torx bolt version; m985 vs m986?)

Can I upgrade it to the latest to take advantage of Direct Mount? Doesn't seem likely.

Curious if anyone else has tried this. I love this setup, but am a bit bummed that I got the older version. I thought they were identical, and goddamit, I just got the think in October. When did the m986 start shipping?!!

Where did you hear/read that? I haven't been able to find any info. Can the B-link knuckle piece be taken off the main derailleur body?
