    Shimano XT WH-MT75 Nipple Size

I have a set of the Shimano 29er WH-MT75 wheels. Does anyone know what size the nipple are? I assume it is the largest normal one, 3.96 mm, aka 105 ga or 0.156 inches.

The wheel includes a Shimano spoke plug wrench that looks a lot like the XTR spoke wrench, and the XTR nipples are 4.5mm. (+/- 0.1mm) across the hex flats.

    Thanks RockyUp,

Park makes a spoke wrench for them. Showing they are 4.5.

The hex nipples are like brake fittings, Having a wrench that engages at least 5 shoulders of the 6 helps reduce the risk of rounding the nipples.

The XT wheels look like they are the same arrangement as the XTR where the nipples are only used for spoke installation, the truing is actually done by turning the flats on the spokes. So the Shimano wrenches with the slot at the other end are still needed for truing.

I had wondered about that. Thing is, the spokes in my XT wheels have no flat spots. They are round top to bottom. There are not threads showing near the rim side nipples nor the hub side hidden nipples.

Regardless of these frustrations, I am still glad I got these wheels. Were great until these broken spokes. Three years without a care.

That's odd, so there's no flats down near the nipples like they show in the XT exploded diagram or the service instructions?

This is what they look like on the XTR wheels

Ah. The spokes on my XT wheel do have such a flat spot, however, they do not seem as pronounced as the XTR wheels.

I think the XT spokes are larger diameter at that location than the XTR spokes so the flat spot is more exaggerated, on the XT spokes they can just flatten them.
