    Shimano XT 10 Speed Question

Can I use the old rear derailleur (M772 XT Shadow SGS Long Cage) along with the new 10 speed shifters and cassette? I believe I can use a 9 speed crank, chain, and front derailleur with the 10 speed set-up right? I'm trying to figure out what I would need to purchase in order to convert to 10 speed.

The new MTB 10 speed isn't compatible with old derailleurs. 10 speed road shifters would be compatible with the old derailleurs.

I just found out the hard way that you cannot do this. The dyna sys shifters pull twice as much cable per shift as 9 speed shifters. So it shifts two gears for every one push of the lever. You can use 10 speed flat bar road shifters with a 9 speed rear derailleur though. But the flat bar road shifters cost more than a 10 speed derailleur, so not much point in getting them.
