New question here. Replacement chainrings for deore LX?

Last night when I took my bike apart to clean and grease every thing, I notice I was missing a tooth on my middle chainring and a ground down 2 or 3 on the large one though I have thought about replacing this one with a bash guard.

I was wondering if I can replace these (if I can what are my options) or would it be a better to replace the crankset.

I have a 2007 Jamis Dakar XAM 1.0 with the Shimano Deore LX, 22/32/44 teeth.

    Thanks for the help

Just replace the middle ring, and buy a bash for the outside. You should be able to use pretty much any 104 BCD ring/bash. You might consider getting a slightly bigger middle ring, if you go with a bash. Maybe a 34T, it gives you a little higher gear, but it's not such a big jump to give you shifting issues.

If you do go with a bash, you should probably shorten your chain a few links (maybe get a new chain, if you've never replaced it). And adjust the high limit screw on your front derailleur so it can't go past the middle ring position.

    I recommend these:

P.S. If you happen to order from Universal Cycles use code vip10 for 10% off.
