Is removing a Shimano M780 24/32/42 (XT) 10spd crank pretty straight forward. I need to remove it to install a XCG 44t in a ISCG05 mount and couldn't find any videos on shimanos website or youtube. Do I just remove the crank arm and use a rubber mallot to dislodge the crank with shaft.
Don't even need a mallet. Just loosen the pinch bolts on the non-drive crank arm ( a little at a time, alternating between the two pinch bolts so you so you don't stretch the threads, remove the pre-load bolt/nut (probably do this with your thumb). Unhinge the plastic keeper tab (between the two halves of the pinch area of the crank arm). Pull.
No sweat. There is a tool made for the black plastic compression bolt too. Forgot to mention it. It is almost unnecessary as the amount of torque needed to preload is easily attainable with your thumb like I said, but it is nice to have to proper tool anyway. Park Tool has one on the opposite end of their outboard bottom bracket tool.
