1. I'm running the "760" xt series, what's the difference in the "761" and "770"?
2. The rear derailleur cage snapped on me this morning. Is there a way to replace the cage only or does it have to be the entire derailleur? I've attached a pic. If the cage can be replaced, where could I buy it from?
M761 is a top normal derailleur, these came out in 2004.
M770 uses a low normal spring and is a new 2008 design.
Low normal means that the derailleur without the cable attached will have the chain over the largest cog or 'thereabouts'. (can be off the largest cog depending on the adjustment screw, if you know what I mean)
The spring on the derailleur actually pulls the cage towards the largest cog. My preferred rear derailleur type as it allows smoother change from a smaller cog to a larger one.
you can get new cage parts for that RD. it shouldnt be tough.
go to www.shimano.com and look it up on the tech docs. page.
you can get the part numbers that you need there.
