Is Lithium grease safe for rubber seals in Shimano pedals?

    Hi!

I've bought some white grease for servicing my pedals but it seems it's lithium-based and I've heard that this attacks rubber. However I've also read on another forum that bicycle seals tend to be made of nitrile rubber which is safe with lithium grease.

    Any experience with this?

I'm keen to hear answers to this as well. I am about to service my XTR 980 pedals and am worried the castrol marine/boating (blue) grease might harm the small rubber seal. Apparently it's a lithium based grease as well, but can't find out how it goes with rubber/nitrile etc.

I used that grease in the end(it's called Nigrin Mehrzweckfett). After 3 weeks I opened the pedal again and the seal looked fine. Meanwhile, I managed to get some Motorex Grease 2000(calcium based) which is rated safe for rubber and I'm going to used this one now since is seems just a tad thicker.
