How to clean / overhaul your derailleurs

I have all parts off the frame and want to use this opportunity to thoroughly clean all the components. How do people relube the pivot points on derailleurs after a clean? Can i use a solvent, or should I stick to a mild detergent?

    Cheers

I'd go with warm, soapy water and just give them a good scrub with a tooth brush. From there you can take the pulleys out of the RD and clean and service them, put a few drops of lubes on the knuckles etc. Front you can't/don't need to disassemble, just put a few drops of lube on the pivot areas. IF you take the RD cage apart and remove the pulleys, make sure to properly tighten the bolts back to good torque or you could be left trying to do a trailside repair - don't ask how I know
