change cable XTR SL-M970 rapid fire

I am changing the cables on my XTR SL-M790 shifters and I am having problems with the front shifter.

I was able to change the cable on the rear shifter fine but not on the front. there is part of shifter mechanism in the way of the cable "knob" which stops you from removing the cable. this does not exist on the rear shifter and was easy to change. Is there a trick to get around this on the front?

    thanks for your help.

Is the shifter for sure in the granny gear position?

Thanks rocky, I needed a little tension on the cable in order to get it there, once in granny gear no problem. I was about to make a trip to Shimano head office for some direct tech support you saved me the embarrassment.

I've always said that a person in the AV industry has may other attributes - electrician, woodworker, plumber, rigger , programmer, interior designer I now have to add bike mechanic.

    thanks again.

PS. now my rear brake hydraulic hose is too short for the new frame.

You'll need to buy the Shimano Brake hose stretcher, or if you need more than 2" you need the brake hose splice kit.

    Kidding.
