    Chain Dropping Problem

2009 Turner 5 Spot DW Link

Front: 22t-36T double ring front crankset, Shimano XT 9 Spd
    Front Der: XTR 9spd
    Cassette: XT 11-36 10 Spd
    Chain: Shimano 10 Spd
    No chain tensioner or guide

Yes, I've tuned the front derailleur, so much so that it rubs slightly when in the Granny-36T combo. Yes, the chain is oriented correctly.

But still, very consistently the chain drops off the 36T, misses the Granny. Dang frustrating.

Anyone else having this problem? I'm about ready to get a Paul Chain Keeper or something.

Sounds like the chain may be to long. Have you checked that?

Chain is proper length. When I'm in the 36T-36T, the rear derailleur has a slight pull on it, but not enough to pull the der. to an extreme.

Also, these are all new parts, clean chain, rear der. hanger is aligned, no bent chain straight

Even so, why would a too long chain miss the granny?

Sometimes to much slack in the chain will cause it to bounce around and off the chain ring.
