Can I use Shimano M665 SLX 2x9 cranks with 2x10 chainrings?

I want to give 2x10 a try on my next bike but would like to stick with the proven and toughened up Shimano SLX M665 cranks that I'm currently using 2x9 on. If I buy the SLX 2x10 chainrings for them, will it be a doable swap or do I need 2x10 specific cranks?

all the new "10-speed" chainrings use the same 64/104 BCD as your cranks except for XTR "race".
you could just replace your middle ring with a 34 or 36 and the big ring with a light bash guard (or nothing, just washers to space out the chainring bolts).

You can run the M665 crank with 9 spd rings and still have a 2x10. My bike is 9 spd up front, crank and FD, and 10 spd out back, shifters (3x10 pods), chain, cassette and RD. Basically it is a 2x10 SLX Dynasys drivetrain. You shouldn't need to change out the rings unless they are done.

I am running the M665 double crank with a 24tooth 10spd little ring and the 36tooth 9spd big ring that come with the M665 crank. I am using Dynasys 10spd shifters and derailleurs without any issues...

I'm running the M665 setup also and want to convert from 2x9 to 2x10. I have the following parts on the bike:

    1. 2011 SRAM X9 Shifters
    2. 2011 SLX 665 FD-E
    3. 2011 SLX M665 Crankset 22/36
    4. 2011 SRAM PG-950-9 11-34T
    5. 2011 SRAM X9 RD
    6. 2011 SRAM PC-951Chain

What do I need to buy other than:
    -10 Speed Shifters
    -24tooth 10spd little ring
-10 speed RD (thinking about a Shimano XT or SRAM XO RD)

Do I need washers to space out the chainrings? Also, I've heard a 10speed chain is thinnner and will reduce chain rub.
