New question here. BB type for DEORE BB-ES51/51-E,BB-ES30/30-E

On the following page for the Deore OCTALINK Bottom Bracket BB-ES51_m it indicates there are 4 variations for this BB spec - BB-ES51/51-E,BB-ES30/30-E.

I am thinking that the "-E" suffix refers to English thread pattern but also what is the difference between the 51 and 30 variations?

In the " MTB Chainlines - Crankset and Bottom Bracket Configurations" pdf file I downloaded from ( there is no mention of the Deore FC-M530 crankset, as detailed in the Deore section of the web site, for which the above BBs are specified.

Shimano needs a Question posting form on their web site!

    Thank you,

The "E" designation stands for "E type"
If your bike has a E type FD you will need a e-type BB (this will provde a correct chainline)

The big difference between the 51 and 30 b.b is:
    1) cost (51 is 60% more than the 31)
    2) marginal weight difference (51 being a tad lighter)
