I have the 2-way shift release on one bike and the old 750's on the other. I really like the newer shifter better. You can use just your thumb to shift, rather than using your index finger. It took me no time at all to get used to the newer shifter.
rapid rise is the deraillier not the shifter, Shimano says for best results use rapid rise with dual control . I use it with thumb shift and it works fine, I think their recomendation is because with the finger shifting you can go 3 gears with the thumb and 2 with the finger but I still like the Rapid rise deraillier and the thumb shifters
I also have the new 760s and love the thumb action..I now use the thumb more for upshifting than the index finger...
